About the role
The Senior Product Designer
Sell Online will own the end-to-end design of high-impact features for SumUp's Sell Online portfolio, shaping the visual and interactive experience of products that help small businesses operate online. You will be responsible for crafting cohesive, polished interfaces and detailed design artifacts that bridge strategic product thinking with implementation-ready delivery. This role involves owning complex design challenges across Bookings and Online Store products, ensuring visual consistency while solving for real merchant needs. You will bring a strong sense of visual craft, including typography, iconography, and illustration, to elevate the quality of our product surfaces. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to translate business goals and user insights into intuitive, user-centered designs. As a senior member of the team, you will contribute to the evolution of our design system and help set standards for quality across the product portfolio. You will use research and data to validate design decisions and iterate based on feedback from users and stakeholders.
Key facts
What you'll do
Define and own end-to-end user flows and visual design for key features within the Sell Online suite, including online stores, appointment booking, and customer management tools.
Create high-fidelity UI mockups, prototypes, and interactive artifacts that communicate design intent clearly to product managers and engineers.
Develop and maintain design components and patterns that support scalability, consistency, and efficiency across multiple product squads.
Conduct qualitative research and analyze user behavior data to uncover insights that inform design decisions and uncover opportunities for improvement.
Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other designers to align on requirements, constraints, and opportunities during the discovery and delivery phases.
Lead design explorations and present concepts to stakeholders, gathering feedback and refining solutions based on input and technical feasibility.
Partner with engineering teams to ensure designs are implemented accurately and to advocate for design quality throughout the development process.
Contribute to the strategy and evolution of the design system, proposing improvements that enhance reuse, clarity, and accessibility.
Balance strategic product thinking with detailed execution, switching context effectively between different product areas and workstreams.
Support the team in setting design standards and best practices that strengthen the overall quality and professionalism of SumUp's products.
Take ownership of complex design problems, breaking them down into manageable parts while maintaining a clear and coherent vision for the user experience.
Requirements
You hold a degree in Design, Human-Interaction, or a related field, or have equivalent practical experience.
You have a portfolio that demonstrates strong visual craft, including clear examples of typography, layout, iconography, and illustration work.
You have at least three years of experience in product design, with a track record of delivering customer-facing digital products.
You have proven experience designing for e-commerce, bookings, or similar consumer-facing contexts, either on web or mobile.
You are experienced in working with and contributing to design systems at scale, understanding components, tokens, and documentation.
You are comfortable managing multiple priorities and stakeholders, switching context between different product areas without losing quality or focus.
You have strong communication skills, able to articulate design decisions clearly and persuasively to both design and non-design audiences.
You are collaborative by nature, willing to listen, adapt, and incorporate feedback while maintaining ownership of the design outcome.
Nice to have
Experience with fintech products, financial dashboards, or data-dense interfaces is a plus.
Familiarity with tools like Figma, Sketch, or similar design systems is expected, with advanced usage demonstrated in your work.

This is an office-first role based in our Berlin office.
