What you'll do
- Lead the financial planning and analysis for clinical trials, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to ensure financial objectives are met.
- Collaborate with clinical operations and project management teams to develop comprehensive financial models that support trial design and execution.
- Monitor and report on trial expenditures, ensuring compliance with financial policies and regulatory requirements.
- Establish and maintain relationships with external vendors and service providers to negotiate contracts and manage costs effectively.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders to facilitate informed decision-making regarding trial progress and resource allocation.
- Develop and implement financial strategies that optimize the use of resources and enhance the efficiency of clinical trial operations.
- Prepare and present financial reports to internal and external stakeholders, highlighting key performance indicators and financial metrics.
- Lead a team of finance professionals, providing mentorship and guidance to foster their professional development and enhance team performance.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the finance function and implement best practices to streamline operations.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and other relevant accounting standards.
- Participate in audits and regulatory inspections, providing necessary documentation and support to ensure compliance.
- Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes that may impact clinical trial financing and operations.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; a master's degree or MBA is preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in finance, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within the clinical trial or pharmaceutical industry.
- Strong understanding of clinical trial operations and the financial implications associated with them.
- Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis in a clinical research setting.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in financial software and tools, with advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems is a plus.
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards related to clinical trials and financial reporting.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Nice to have
- Experience with clinical trial budgeting software or financial management systems.
- Familiarity with contract negotiation and vendor management in a clinical trial context.
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) is advantageous.
- Previous experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical company is a plus.
- Understanding of the drug development process and the role of finance in supporting clinical research initiatives.
