Staff Data Analyst
Job description
About the role
Staff Data Analyst, Risk Data Science
Stripe builds the financial infrastructure that powers the internet economy. Millions of companies, from global enterprises to ambitious startups, rely on Stripe to accept payments, grow revenue, and unlock new opportunities. Our mission is to expand the GDP of the internet, a task that demands ambitious problem-solvers ready to tackle the most critical challenges of our time.
The Risk Data Science team is responsible for constructing the data foundations, models, and measurement frameworks that inform Stripe's risk and product decisions. These range from underwriting and reserves to merchant interventions. As we evolve risk capabilities into a platform for our users and internal stakeholders, we require a data leader capable of shaping how we build, measure, and refine our risk data strategy.
This position is centered on defining the analytical backbone for risk as a product offering. You will establish the metrics, data products, and frameworks that guide risk decisions at scale. The role demands a strategic partnership with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure data investments directly support product objectives. You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of key risk metrics, from definition through execution.
Key Responsibilities
You will set the strategic direction for risk metrics that clarify intent and focus for platforms and connected accounts. This involves establishing a canonical set of north star and operational metrics, ensuring they are documented, trustworthy, and consistently communicated to the appropriate audiences. You will maintain the integrity of these metrics as products and data landscapes change, creating clear ownership structures and alert mechanisms for deviations.
A core focus is building and optimizing the pipelines that deliver reliable insights. You will design workflows that keep risk data accurate and current while managing the cost of maintaining this accuracy. This includes creating scalable infrastructure that supports ongoing governance and quality checks.
You will also lead Stripe's risk experimentation strategy. This involves defining test parameters, selecting measurement methodologies, and analyzing outcomes to assess the impact of risk policies and model changes across diverse merchant segments. The goal is to create a continuous feedback loop that improves decision-making.
Finally, you will elevate the standard of analysis on the team. You will mentor analysts, providing guidance on problem framing, analytical structuring, and executive communication. Your leadership will ensure that insights are not only accurate but also actionable for senior stakeholders.
Qualifications
To be considered, you must meet the following minimum criteria.
- Experience: 10+ years in professional roles centered on data analysis or data science.
- Strategic Impact: A proven history of defining and driving data strategy across multiple teams. You must demonstrate the ability to shape initiatives, not merely execute them.
- Experimentation: Hands-on experience designing frameworks for experimentation and measurement in complex, multi-variant environments. This includes risk policies, pricing models, or marketplace dynamics.

This role is based in the United States and offers full-time employment. The listed compensation target is $180,000 per year, though total rewards may vary based on location and individual qualifications.
