We are looking for a Level II or Senior Flight Sciences Engineer to assist in the conceptual design and aerodynamic evaluation of hypersonic vehicles. A solid background in aerodynamics and flight mechanics is essential, including expertise in stability and control, aerodynamic model creation, flight simulation, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and relevant wind tunnel assessments. Experience in aircraft design and performance analysis across a range of speeds from subsonic to hypersonic is preferred.

What you'll do

• Conduct trajectory analysis and optimization for both current and future vehicle designs.
• Assist in the creation of aerodynamic databases utilizing analytical, numerical, ground, and flight test data.
• Perform analytical and numerical evaluations to assess the aerodynamics, performance, and stability of hypersonic vehicles.
• Develop aerodynamic models for various hypersonic vehicle configurations.
• Contribute to flight performance simulations through modeling and aerodynamic assessments.
• Analyze data from wind tunnel and flight tests as necessary.
• Create advanced design tools as needed.
• Support the preparation of proposals for the U.S. Government and industry.
• Uphold integrity, responsibility, and commitment in all tasks.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge and experience in aerodynamics, performance, stability, control, and aerospace vehicle design.
• Familiarity with subsonic, transonic, or supersonic theories and analyses.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Must be willing to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Nice to have

• Background in hypersonic aerodynamic theory and analysis.
• Experience in hypersonic vehicle development or testing.
• Experience in supersonic vehicle development or testing.
• Proficiency in creating aerodynamic models for complex aerospace vehicles.
• Experience in trajectory shaping and optimization.
• Skills in lofting compound surfaces for aerospace vehicles.
• Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
• Active security clearance.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB.
• Competent in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Experience with CFD analysis tools, such as US3D, Fun3D, Pointwise, Link3D, StarCCM, or Kestrel.
• Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software.
• Experience with trajectory optimization analysis tools.
• Knowledge of configuration management systems like Jira.
• Understanding of software version control systems like Git.

Education & experience

• Level II: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from an accredited institution and 2-5 years of engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience ($101,079-$146,500).
• Senior Level: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from an accredited institution and 5-10 years of engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience ($120,500-$158,000).

Practical notes

This position allows for flexible work arrangements, including remote, hybrid, or on-site options based on candidate preference and business needs. Travel required for this role is estimated to be less than 5%.
