We are seeking an Avionics Design Engineer with varying levels of experience to join our team. This role will involve the design, integration, testing, and maintenance of electrical and avionics systems for our carrier and hypersonic vehicles, contributing directly to our mission.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Integrate avionics and electrical systems into aircraft, which includes gathering requirements, developing wiring diagrams, and providing support to shop personnel during the implementation and testing phases.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for systems and subsystems, including engineering documents and drawing packages.
• Establish the architecture for avionics and electrical systems to ensure optimal functionality.
• Collaborate with harness engineers to define routing requirements for harnesses effectively.
• Update design standards and guidelines as needed to maintain compliance and efficiency.
• Participate in design validation testing and troubleshoot any design-related challenges that arise.
• Offer engineering support within the electrical shop to assist technicians as required.
• Communicate effectively with leadership and cross-functional teams to address technical challenges and ensure alignment on project goals.
• Travel occasionally to support departmental needs, with an estimated travel requirement of less than 5%.

Requirements

• Background in electrical engineering, avionics, or aerospace systems integration is essential.
• Familiarity with aerospace production documentation, including drawings and work orders, is required.
• Proficient in Product Data Management (PDM) systems and engineering control processes.
• Understanding of aerospace hardware components such as connectors and relays is necessary.
• Strong communication skills are vital for conveying technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively is crucial.
• Experience in the development of complex aerospace systems is preferred.
• Must be adaptable to changing priorities and project requirements.

Nice to have

• A security clearance would be advantageous.
• Experience with electrical power systems in launch vehicles or aircraft is a plus.
• Practical experience with the installation of aircraft electrical systems is desirable.

Skills & tools

• Proficiency in Siemens Capital/Mentor Graphics is required.
• Familiarity with 3D CAD tools is essential.
• Competence in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, is necessary.
• Experience as a CAD parts librarian, particularly with Mentor Graphics, is preferred.
• Preferred experience in 3D CAD modeling using tools such as NX, CATIA, or Solidworks.
• Familiarity with configuration management systems, especially Jira, is beneficial.

Education & experience

• Level I ($83,000-$120,500): Requires a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution with 0-2 years of engineering experience, or a suitable combination of education and experience.
• Level II ($101,000-$146,500): Requires a Bachelor's degree or higher with 2-5 years of engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Senior Level ($120,500-$158,000): Requires a Bachelor's degree or higher with 5-10 years of engineering experience, or a comparable combination of education and experience.

Practical notes

• This position is based on-site in Mojave, CA.
• The role may involve occasional travel to support departmental needs, estimated at less than 5%.
