Intelligence / Targeting Mission Integrator
Job description
Intelligence / Targeting Mission Integrator at Spear Ai.
About the role
The Intelligence / Targeting Mission Integrator role at Spear AI places you at the critical seam between operational targeting and AI-enabled capability development, where your operational judgment directly shapes product direction. You own the translation of the Joint Targeting Cycle - from object-based intelligence and target development through target system analysis and collection management - into clear, actionable workflows and user stories for engineering teams. This position requires you to identify where data sources, operational processes, and AI capabilities should intersect and then drive the integration necessary to close those gaps. You will act as the connective tissue between warfighters, platform owners, and developers, ensuring that deployed solutions reflect real-world targeting demands. Your work will directly influence how quickly and effectively joint, combatant command, and interagency partners can act on timely intelligence. Because this is a small, fast-moving, multi-vendor program, your decisions will meaningfully influence what gets built and how rapidly it reaches the edge. We are filling four of these roles, and your contributions will be visible at the highest levels of impact within a mission-driven environment.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Bring hands-on operational targeting expertise to bear across the Joint Targeting Cycle at the CCMD, Joint Staff, SOCOM, or IC level, ensuring that real-world requirements inform solution design.
- [Priority] Identify and articulate integration opportunities between existing operational workflows, fragmented data sources, and emerging AI-enabled capabilities to create coherent end-to-end solutions.
- [Priority] Apply advanced, systems-level target development and target system analysis to influence capability direction and ensure alignment with joint mission objectives.
- Translate complex operational targeting processes into developer-consumable workflows, precise requirements documents, and compelling user stories that accelerate engineering implementation.
- Communicate nuanced architectural tradeoffs, technical risks, integration constraints, and reasoned recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
- Coordinate closely with operational users, platform owners, and technical development teams to resolve dependencies, align priorities, and maintain solution integrity.
- Maintain continuous awareness of theater-level targeting coordination activities across joint and service organizations to ensure solutions remain relevant and adaptable.
- Work proficiently with joint targeting tools, intelligence platforms, and data environments, including an understanding of their governance structures and ownership models.
Requirements
You have demonstrated operational experience supporting the full Joint Targeting Cycle and possess a deep understanding of how intelligence directly supports targeting at joint and operational levels. You can fluidly move between the operational floor and development teams, reframing complex targeting challenges into problems that engineers can solve. Direct experience supporting intelligence operations within the IC or a Combatant Command J2 is highly preferred and provides critical context for your contributions. You hold an active TS/SCI clearance, with TS/SCI with CI Polygraph preferred where applicable, and are a U.S. citizen required for this position. You must be capable of supporting periodic travel approximately every 30 days to Combatant Command headquarters, service components, operational units, and industry or vendor sites as mission needs dictate. You thrive in fast-paced, multi-vendor, government-led development environments where priorities evolve rapidly and agility is essential. You communicate effectively across diverse stakeholders, including technical developers, operational users, senior leaders, and external vendors, ensuring alignment and shared understanding. Prior experience operating within classified environments and managing cross-domain data constraints is preferred, as is familiarity with the constraints and opportunities these settings create. You have experience with Agile development practices, rapid capability delivery, and iterative user-feedback cycles, allowing you to contribute effectively in modern software development contexts.
Nice to have
Preferred experience includes prior roles in CCMD J2T/J2C/J23, Joint Staff J2, SOCOM, or IC targeting support, providing relevant operational context and domain familiarity. Supporting targeting operations within USINDOPACOM offers valuable perspective on theater-specific coordination and requirements. Familiarity with weaponeering workflows and target-to-effects integration helps ensure that solutions remain practical and operationally sound. Existing relationships with operational platform or data owners are highly desired because they accelerate access to critical insights and stakeholders. Experience supporting Department of Defense software, AI/ML, or operational capability development programs demonstrates an understanding of how technology transitions into deployed environments.
Practical notes
This is a full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and it is not eligible for overtime pay. Compensation is provided on a salaried basis and is not subject to reduction based on hours worked, in accordance with applicable state law where compensation ranges may be provided upon request. You should expect to exercise independent judgment and take ownership of complex problems without step-by-step supervision. The role requires the ability to obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI clearance, with TS/SCI with CI Polygraph preferred where applicable. Travel is required approximately every 30 days to meet with stakeholders across combatant commands, services, operational units, and vendor or industry locations. This position is based in Washington, D.C., with a hybrid work arrangement that balances in-office collaboration and remote focus. Equal opportunity principles guide all employment decisions, ensuring access for veterans, military family members, and military spouses, who together represent over half of the workforce across all five service branches.
