About the role
SpaceX hires civil engineering interns to own intake, define build parameters, drive design reviews, validate vehicle and facility readiness, and align partners. You will solve complex civil problems within strict codes and shifting schedules, ensuring structures and infrastructure are ready on time and perform when required. This role supports the development and operation of advanced facilities and infrastructure critical to SpaceX missions. You will translate mission requirements into robust civil infrastructure solutions that can withstand the demanding environments of launch and operations. The intern will act as a key technical link between engineering design and field implementation across multiple demanding sites. You will apply rigorous analysis to ensure every structure meets the necessary safety and performance standards under extreme conditions. This position provides direct exposure to the full lifecycle of high-profile aerospace infrastructure projects.

What you'll do
Setting intake criteria for site constraints and regulatory demands across multiple locations.
Designing structural elements while applying AISC, ACI, ASCE 7, and IBC rules for facility safety.
Coordinating build sequencing so that fabrication, utilities, and site access match launch and test needs.
Reviewing drawings and calculations with experts to confirm constructability and schedule integrity.
Signing off on pre-ship checks that confirm loads, clearances, and safety systems before operations.
Partnering with local agencies and vendors to keep permits, deliveries, and inspections on track.
Validating construction quality through inspections, tests, and documentation that satisfy codes.
Shipping support by confirming logistics, handling, and documentation for hardware bound for Starbase, Cape Canaveral, and Hawthorne.
Conducting detailed reviews of foundation requirements for heavy launch vehicle support structures.
Performing site surveys and measurements to verify compliance with design layouts and control points.
Analyzing site-specific loads such as wind, seismic, and blast effects on civil infrastructure components.
Preparing and interpreting technical reports related to site readiness and infrastructure performance.
Assisting in the development of site utilities including power, water, drainage, and fire protection systems.
Supporting the implementation of erosion control, drainage plans, and environmental compliance measures at active sites.
Requirements
You must be currently enrolled in a degree program and bring a minimum of 3 months of civil or structural engineering experience.
You must hold U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, refugee status, or asylum status in compliance with employment eligibility rules.
You must be available for full time onsite work for at least 12 weeks starting in May or June 2027.
You must provide your own transportation for assignments at Cape Canaveral.
You must understand AISC steel design standards, ACI 318 concrete standards, ASCE 7 loading standards, and the International Building Code.
You must be proficient enough in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, SAP2000, and Revit to own project deliverables.
You must collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams and communicate clearly while adapting to changing priorities.
You must solve problems independently, take initiative, and support team goals.
You must maintain a strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation and calculations.
You must demonstrate the ability to work safely in a fast-paced and technically complex environment.
You must be capable of managing multiple assignments and meeting firm deadlines in high-pressure situations.
You must follow instructions precisely and adhere to established procedures and quality standards.

Nice to have
A GPA of 3.5 or higher with a history of applying classroom knowledge to real-world sites.
Proven experience owning a civil project from concept to completion while using the listed codes and software.
Strong leadership in student organizations or complex group efforts.

Practical notes
