About the role

You will oversee the lifecycle of MEP systems, managing projects from initial design through construction and ongoing maintenance. This role requires hands-on coordination with contractors and internal teams to ensure facility infrastructure supports our aerospace manufacturing goals. You will analyze operational data to identify trends that inform preventative maintenance strategies and long term system reliability. The position demands a proactive approach to anticipating facility failures before they impact production or safety. You will serve as the primary technical liaison for complex infrastructure issues affecting multiple manufacturing lines. This role requires a deep understanding of how facility systems interact with aerospace specific processes and quality requirements. You will drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing the reliability and efficiency of critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure. Collaboration with engineering and operations teams will be essential to align facility capabilities with evolving manufacturing objectives.

What you'll do

• Manage MEP engineering, procurement, and construction projects, including commissioning and maintenance.
• Verify that all facility work adheres to technical standards, building codes, and project specifications.
• Coordinate repairs and upgrades for HVAC, electrical, fire protection, security, and structural systems.
• Create and manage project documentation, design drawings, and status reports.
• Resolve field conflicts between internal teams and external contractors in real time.
• Oversee capital expenditure projects, ensuring budgets and technical requirements are met.
• Secure building permits and manage final inspections with local authorities.
• Maintain facility readiness for environmental threats and respond to emergency situations.
• Negotiate and define scopes of work across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Interpret detailed engineering schematics to validate installation accuracy and compliance.
• Facilitate cross functional meetings to align maintenance schedules with production demands.
• Conduct root cause analysis for facility related incidents and document corrective actions.
• Evaluate vendor proposals to ensure technical compliance and value optimization.
• Implement digital tools to track asset performance and streamline work order management.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 1 year of professional experience designing or building MEP systems.
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, or similar engineering design software.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual under ITAR regulations.
• Ability to provide 24/7 on-call support for critical operations.
• Ability to lift or move up to 30 lbs and operate heavy equipment like forklifts or boom lifts.
• Capability to work effectively in a high noise, high traffic industrial environment.
• Willingness to adhere to strict safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times.
• Understanding of the importance of maintaining security clearances and controlled access areas.
• Commitment to passing background checks and drug screening as required for the position.
• Physical ability to navigate multi floor facilities with stairways and limited elevator access.
• Compliance with all SpaceX policies regarding confidentiality and intellectual property.
• Willingness to relocate to the Hawthorne facility if not currently local to the area.

Nice to have

• Experience managing heavy industrial, aerospace, or large commercial construction projects.
• Background in conceptual design, budgeting, and contract management.
• Expertise in electrical power distribution, including delta/wye transformers and grounding.
• Knowledge of critical power infrastructure such as UPS systems, generators, and transfer switches.
• Familiarity with HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, and refrigeration.
• Experience with plumbing, including wastewater, venting, and storm systems.
• Understanding of NEC, ASHRAE, NFPA, and IBC standards.

Practical notes

Salary ranges: Facilities Infrastructure Engineer Level I ($100,000 to $115,000) and Level II ($110,000 to $135,000). Total compensation includes potential stock options, cash awards, and bonuses. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k), life insurance, disability insurance, paid parental leave, 3 weeks of vacation, and at least 10 paid holidays. This is an on-site role requiring relocation to Hawthorne, CA if not already local. Expect occasional weekend work and extended hours.
