About the role
This role focuses on ensuring Starlink hardware meets all necessary global regulations. You will guide products through certification processes, influencing design decisions from the start to enable worldwide market access for Starlink devices. Your work directly supports the deployment of advanced internet services to users across the globe. You will own the end-to-end compliance strategy for hardware programs, translating high-level regulatory requirements into actionable technical tasks for cross-functional teams. You will act as the primary compliance liaison between engineering, legal, and regulatory bodies to ensure timely market entry. The position requires proactive risk identification and the implementation of design controls that prevent costly rework late in development. You will drive the creation of compliance documentation that serves as the foundation for regulatory acceptance and customer trust. This role is critical in bridging the gap between innovative hardware design and the complex legal frameworks of international markets.

What you'll do
- Orchestrate the comprehensive compliance strategy for Starlink hardware, covering EMC, Safety, Radio, and Environmental standards from initial concept to launch.
- Architect and manage certification programs across diverse technical domains and international regions, ensuring alignment with project timelines.
- Partner with design engineers to integrate compliance requirements and constraints early in the product development lifecycle.
- Cultivate and sustain strategic relationships with external test laboratories, Notified Bodies, and global certification agencies.
- Author, control, and maintain technical construction files and dossiers to support global regulatory submissions and audits.
- Analyze and resolve intricate compliance issues related to safety, electromagnetic compatibility, radio frequency, and material specifications.
- Monitor evolving regulatory landscapes and standards updates to anticipate impacts on hardware design and roadmap planning.
- Quantify compliance risks and develop mitigation plans to protect product launch schedules and market viability.
- Serve as the central expert for interpreting complex regulatory rules and standards for internal stakeholders.
- Standardize compliance processes and tooling to improve efficiency and repeatability across multiple product lines.
- Conduct compliance gap analyses and define test plans to validate hardware against applicable requirements.
- Support the preparation and review of regulatory documentation for submissions to bodies such as the FCC, CE, and international authorities.
- Lead root cause investigations for compliance failures and define corrective and preventive actions to ensure lasting solutions.
- Enable the business by removing regulatory obstacles that impede the deployment and adoption of Starlink services worldwide.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in an engineering or STEM field from an accredited institution.
- Possess 1+ years of professional experience in compliance and certification engineering, with internship experience qualifying.
- Demonstrate the ability to work extended hours or weekends when critical project deadlines and regulatory milestones demand it.
- Be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful permanent resident, Refugee, or Asylee, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State due to ITAR regulations.
- Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical compliance details to multidisciplinary teams.
- Show a disciplined approach to managing multiple priorities and meeting strict submission deadlines.
- Display a willingness to learn and apply detailed technical regulations and industry standards.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and demonstrate the ability to travel domestically for business as needed.
- Commit to adhering to SpaceX policies regarding safety, quality, and data handling in all compliance activities.
- Understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality related to regulatory strategies and product specifications.
- Align with the company's mission to advance spaceflight, telecom, and AI through rigorous and ethical compliance practices.
- Meet all employment eligibility requirements as mandated by U.S. federal law for the position location.

- Accumulate 4+ years of progressive experience in product compliance engineering roles with increasing responsibility.
- Bring wide-ranging experience across EMC, Product Safety, RF/Wireless, and Environmental compliance disciplines.
- Show direct experience with FCC, CE, UL, IEC, EN, RED, RoHS, REACH, and similar global standards and directives.
- Provide a proven track record of successfully certifying consumer electronics or telecommunications equipment for international markets.
- Demonstrate strong project management skills and the ability to lead cross-functional compliance initiatives.
- Exhibit the capacity to quickly master new regulations, standards, and regulatory processes.
- Possess excellent communication skills, including the talent to explain complex technical and regulatory topics clearly to engineering teams.
- Have experience working within matrixed organizational structures and managing stakeholder expectations.
- Show proficiency in using compliance management tools, document control systems, and submission platforms.
- Display strong analytical and problem-solving abilities when addressing regulatory challenges.
Practical notes
This role is based in Bastrop, Texas.
Employment is Full-time.
Candidates must be able to meet the eligibility requirements related to ITAR and U.S. export control regulations.
Domestic travel may be required for compliance activities, testing, or meetings with regulatory authorities and partners.
