About the role
This temporary role within the NDE Operations team exists to support the critical Starship program through foundational inspection support. You will engage in an intensive training pathway designed to acquire the certifications and technical skills required for nondestructive evaluation of flight hardware. The position demands meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to process adherence in a high-tempo environment. You will own the execution of assigned inspection tasks under direct supervision, ensuring data integrity is maintained for engineering analysis. What you'll do
- Execute on-the-job training alongside senior inspectors to build the practical competence needed for certification assessments.
- Conduct inspections utilizing the specific NDE methods assigned to you, recording findings and communicating results to engineering and production stakeholders.
- Analyze and interpret detailed engineering drawings to verify inspection scope and acceptance criteria.
- Assist in the formulation and refinement of inspection techniques specifically tailored for complex and challenging geometric configurations.
- Participate in research and development initiatives aimed at evaluating and implementing emerging NDE technologies.
- Deliver training and mentorship to other team members to elevate the overall capability and consistency of the inspection group.
- Perform systematic reviews of inspection documentation to ensure compliance with procedural requirements and data accuracy.
- Operate inspection equipment and coordinate setups to support efficient workflow and minimal production disruption.
- Contribute to the maintenance and validation of inspection checklists and standard operating procedures.
- Support the collection and analysis of inspection data to identify trends and inform continuous improvement efforts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve discrepancies and determine disposition for non-conforming conditions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in strict accordance with site safety protocols and housekeeping standards.
Requirements
- Possess a high school diploma or an equivalency certificate recognized in the United States.
- Demonstrate availability to work any shift schedule, including day shifts from 6 AM to 6 PM, night shifts from 6 PM to 6 AM, weekends, and overtime as required.
- Meet rigorous physical demands, such as standing for up to 10 hours, climbing for up to 6 hours, lifting loads up to 50 pounds, and pushing or pulling loads up to 75 pounds.
- Endure working in environmental conditions where temperatures exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit for extended periods.
- Perform job functions at heights reaching up to 500 feet, operate in confined spaces, and use an air-purifying respirator when necessary.
- Adhere to ITAR regulations by maintaining U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, refugee status, or asylee status.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check as mandated by company policy.
- Successfully complete all required training and certification programs within the stipulated timeframe.
- Maintain reliable transportation to ensure punctuality and attendance at all scheduled work locations.
Nice to have
- Accumulate 2 or more years of professional welding experience in a relevant industrial setting.
- Achieve certification in two or more NDE methods, such as penetrant or visual testing, per ASNT-TC-1A, NAS-410, or Department of Defense standards.
- Obtain NDE Level I certification in methods such as eddy current, radiography, digital radiography, penetrant, visual, computed radiography, phased array ultrasonic, ultrasonic, ultrasound shear wave, or magnetic particle testing.
- Apply operational experience specifically related to inspecting weldments using various NDE methodologies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of aerospace and material standards including AMS, AWS/ASME, and ASTM specifications.
- Utilize established problem-solving frameworks like 8D or PPS to address inspection challenges.
- Implement lean management principles, including practices like 5S and Kaizen, to optimize workflow efficiency.

- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for documentation and reporting purposes.
