About the role

SpaceX is seeking a Level III NDE Specialist to join the Starship program at Starbase, where your expertise will directly influence the integrity and advancement of next-generation aerospace hardware. In this capacity, you will own the execution of non-destructive testing on critical flight hardware and associated ground support systems, ensuring compliance with stringent quality standards. The role requires a balance of hands-on inspection work and technical leadership, where you will mentor junior staff and drive continuous improvement in inspection methodologies. You will be responsible for training, process optimization, and maintaining the reliability of Eddy Current equipment in a demanding production setting. This position acts as the primary technical advisor for inspectors and engineers, translating complex inspection data into actionable insights. You will partner closely with manufacturing and design teams to identify and implement process improvements that enhance both reliability and efficiency. What you'll do

• Execute comprehensive inspections on flight hardware and ground support equipment using Eddy Current methods.
• Analyze inspection data thoroughly and communicate findings clearly to production and engineering teams.
• Review and interpret detailed engineering blueprints to ensure inspection criteria are accurately applied.
• Manage the development and refinement of the training program for Eddy Current inspection techniques.
• Serve as the primary technical advisor for inspectors and engineers regarding NDE processes and results.
• Partner with manufacturing and design teams to improve inspection reliability and implement innovative processes.
• Maintain peak performance of inspection equipment and manage relationships with external vendors effectively.
• Conduct technical interviews to evaluate and select prospective NDE inspectors for the team.

• Perform root cause analysis on inspection escapes to identify systemic issues and prevent future occurrences.

Requirements

• Hold a High school diploma or equivalent as a minimum educational qualification.
• Possess a current ASNT or NAS-410 Level III certification in Eddy Current (ET) without exception.
• Demonstrate the ability to lift 25 lbs as a standard physical requirement of the role.
• Be capable of standing for long periods during inspections and operational duties.
• Navigate stairs and perform physical movements such as bending or reaching as necessary for equipment access.
• Maintain availability for weekend work when critical inspection or production needs arise.
• Commit to working overtime as required to meet project deadlines and production targets.
• Be available to travel 10% to 20% of the time for role-related duties and collaboration.
• Adhere to all U.S. export control laws (ITAR) by maintaining appropriate citizenship or legal status.
• Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or hold protected status as a refugee or asylee to comply with ITAR regulations.

Nice to have

• Bring a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Eddy Current NDE inspection to the role.
• Conduct root cause analysis regarding inspection escapes to identify and address underlying issues.
• Demonstrate familiarity with industry standards including NASA 5009, AMS, AWS, ASME, and ASTM.
• Show proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and internal manufacturing software like Warp Applications.
• Experience leading teams or influencing peers toward shared technical goals and outcomes.
• Possess a background in aerospace manufacturing or a related technical field.
• Have exposure to advanced NDE techniques and willingness to learn new technologies.
• Display strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently when required.
