This position focuses on identifying and resolving failures in PCBA components while working across electrical, mechanical, and supply chain departments. You will be responsible for driving reliability initiatives from initial design reviews through end-of-life analysis. Collaboration with cross-functional partners is essential to align technical requirements with manufacturing capabilities. What you'll do
- Investigate complex hardware malfunctions using advanced diagnostic techniques to pinpoint failure mechanisms.
- Conduct rigorous environmental testing on PCBA assemblies to validate performance under extreme conditions.
- Perform detailed electrical measurements using precision instrumentation to verify circuit functionality.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers to assess structural integrity and thermal management solutions.
- Analyze production data to identify trends that indicate systemic reliability risks.
- Develop and execute test procedures that simulate the harsh realities of the space environment.
- Interface directly with suppliers to resolve component-level issues and ensure compliance with specifications.
- Create comprehensive technical reports that document investigation methodologies and findings.
- Support the development of hardware qualification protocols to accelerate validation cycles.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurring defects in the supply chain.
- Coordinate test schedules with mission timelines to ensure timely hardware delivery.
- Mentor junior engineers on best practices for failure analysis and reliability improvement.
- Optimize test coverage to maximize detection of latent defects while minimizing false failures.
- Drive the implementation of reliability metrics that inform strategic product development decisions.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or a related engineering field.
- Possess a minimum of 1 year of professional experience in reliability engineering, failure analysis, or hardware development, with internships and co-op experiences counting toward this requirement.
- Demonstrate the capability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to support mission operations and critical deadlines.
- Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to satisfy ITAR compliance and security protocols.
- Maintain the ability to pass required background checks and security screenings without delay.
- Show a strong commitment to adhering to safety procedures and quality standards in all work activities.
- Exhibit effective communication skills to convey technical information clearly to multidisciplinary teams.
Nice to have
- Hold a Master degree in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline for advanced technical depth.
- Bring 3 or more years of industry experience focusing on electronic hardware and complex systems.
- Demonstrate proficiency with digital, mixed-signal, power, or RF electronics using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and soldering tools.
- Have hands-on experience with environmental testing methods such as TVAC, vibration, thermal testing, and HALT/HASS procedures.
- Write code in Python, C, or C++ to develop scripts for data analysis and test automation workflows.
- Apply knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean principles, or other formal quality management frameworks to drive process improvements.
- Understand DFX strategies, derating practices, and statistical process control techniques to enhance design robustness.
- Work with digital communication interfaces including SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, and RS422 in a test or production context.
- Hold an active Top Secret, Top Secret SCI, or DOE Level Q clearance to access classified programs and data.
Practical notes
- Employees with an active clearance receive a 10% differential, up to $20,000 annually, upon being briefed into a classified program.
- The role operates under a full-time engagement model requiring consistent availability during standard business hours and beyond.
- Travel is not required for this position as all work is conducted at the primary site in Hawthorne, Canada.
