About the role

Join the critical infrastructure team at SpaceX to help develop and maintain advanced manufacturing facilities. This role offers significant independence to tackle complex challenges across multiple projects. You will contribute to the ongoing operations and improvement of all systems at the Hawthorne production site.

What you'll do

• Lead project teams, external consultants, and contractors through the entire lifecycle of MEP engineering, from procurement to maintenance.
• Provide technical engineering support to ensure construction and maintenance adhere to all relevant standards, codes, and specifications.
• Oversee maintenance activities and coordinate repair, build, and contingency efforts for HVAC, electrical, crane, facility, security, and fire protection systems.
• Manage the creation and distribution of drawings, documents, and reports for large commercial, industrial, or aerospace projects.
• Resolve design and construction issues in the field in real-time with various internal and external stakeholders.
• Prepare and coordinate the capital expenditure process, including reviews, approvals, and execution of site capital projects within budget and deadlines.
• Collaborate with the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to secure building permits and ensure all certificates and final inspections are obtained before project closeout.
• Communicate and schedule building and maintenance activities to personnel, subcontractors, and material suppliers to meet deadlines efficiently.
• Ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations.
• Respond to facility emergencies and manage readiness procedures for environmental threats.
• Draft, negotiate, and manage project scopes across various MEP engineering disciplines.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or another engineering discipline.
• 1+ years of professional experience in the design or construction of MEP building systems.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or other engineering design software.

Nice to have

• Direct field experience managing daily operations of aerospace, heavy industrial, or large commercial construction projects.
• Experience with conceptual design and budgeting.
• Experience in contract management for significant capital projects.
• Experience managing the engineering, procurement, and construction process for aerospace or heavy industrial projects.
• Primary experience with electrical and power distribution systems.
• Knowledge of HVAC operation and design principles, including refrigeration, chillers, boilers, and air handling equipment.
• Experience with plumbing design and operation, including domestic water, wastewater, venting, and storm systems.
• Working knowledge of delta/wye transformers, building lighting, building construction specifications, and facility grounding.
• Experience with critical power infrastructure, including UPS systems, backup generators, and automatic transfer switches.
• Experience creating and implementing process or design solutions with minimal impact on business operations.
• Ability to quickly assess issues and assist technicians with troubleshooting and repair.
• Ability to work in a high-concentration, high-stress environment, potentially with extended hours and tight deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify interactions with other systems to prevent problems.
• Familiarity with the National Electric Code, ASHRAE, National Fire Protection Association, and International Building Code.

Practical notes

an on-site position in Hawthorne, CA, requiring relocation if not already local. The role requires 24/7 on-call support for critical activities and emergencies. Occasional extended hours and weekend work may be necessary. Physical requirements include standing, crawling, stooping, and lifting up to 30 lbs unassisted. The ability to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts is also required.

Compensation for Facilities Infrastructure Engineer/Level I is $100,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year. For Facilities Infrastructure Engineer/Level II, it is $110,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year. Actual level and salary are determined by job knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
