About the role
In this position, you will play a crucial role at Akoustis, a subsidiary of SpaceX that specializes in RF filter technology for Starlink and aerospace applications. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the reliability of facility infrastructure and equipment, thereby facilitating uninterrupted production and operational efficiency at our site in Canandaigua, New York.

What you'll do
- Lead and coordinate project teams and contractors throughout the entire lifecycle of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering projects, including procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Supervise the maintenance and enhancement of facility systems such as HVAC, electrical systems, and cranes to ensure maximum operational uptime.
- Manage budgets for capital expenditures and oversee the execution of project timelines to ensure projects are completed on schedule.
- Develop and implement reliability programs for new equipment during their onboarding process to ensure they meet operational standards.
- Provide technical guidance to ensure that all facility-related work complies with safety regulations and building codes.
- Serve as a first responder for facility emergencies, ensuring that operational readiness is maintained at all times.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve equipment reliability issues, enhancing overall facility performance.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation related to equipment performance, maintenance activities, and project progress for management review.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or a related engineering field is required.
- At least one year of experience in the design, construction, or maintenance of MEP building systems, which may include relevant academic or internship experience.
- Ability to be available for on-call duties 24/7 in case of critical situations or emergencies.
- Physical capability to stand, crawl, stoop, and lift items weighing up to 30 pounds without assistance.
- Proficient in operating boom lifts, scissor lifts, and forklifts as needed.
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends to meet project deadlines when necessary.
- Must comply with ITAR regulations, qualifying as a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Nice to have
- Experience in semiconductor manufacturing is a plus.
- Familiarity with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) processes for heavy industrial or aerospace projects is advantageous.
- Proficiency in design software such as Revit or AutoCAD would be beneficial.
- Background in managing capital project contracts and involvement in conceptual design processes is desirable.
- Knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, including backup generators, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and automatic transfer switches.
- Understanding of HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, and refrigeration technologies.
- Experience with plumbing systems, including stormwater, venting, wastewater, and domestic water systems.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as NFPA, ASHRAE, International Building Code, and National Electrical Code is a plus.

Practical notes
- Salary for this position ranges from $85,000 to $115,000 for Level I, and $100,000 to $130,000 for Level II, depending on experience.
- The benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, life insurance, disability coverage, paid parental leave, and three weeks of vacation in addition to over ten holidays.
- Compensation may also include potential stock options, discretionary bonuses, and participation in an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
- This role requires full onsite presence; remote work options are not available.
