In this role, you will provide essential technical support in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to the satellite manufacturing operations based in Redmond, Washington. Acting as a vital extension of the engineering team, your primary focus will be to uphold safety protocols and ensure that all operations meet high safety standards for the workforce. This position is crucial for maintaining a safe working environment while supporting the innovative projects at SpaceX.

What you'll do

• Conduct sampling and monitoring of wastewater systems to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
• Install air quality monitoring equipment and integrate it with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) for real-time data analysis.
• Calibrate and maintain a variety of EHS instruments to ensure accurate measurements and compliance.
• Carry out industrial hygiene assessments to evaluate the impact of manufacturing byproducts on worker health and safety.
• Design and implement EHS signage throughout the facility to promote safety awareness among employees.
• Assess personal protective equipment (PPE) needs based on guidelines from NIOSH and ANSI standards.
• Oversee the maintenance and monitoring of air filtration systems to ensure optimal air quality in the workplace.
• Test both active and passive machine guarding systems to verify their effectiveness in protecting employees.
• Draft job hazard assessments and perform routine safety inspections to identify potential risks.
• Investigate workplace incidents, analyze root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
• Engage in emergency response planning and lead training sessions to prepare employees for potential safety incidents.
• Develop and implement lockout/tagout procedures for industrial machinery to ensure safe maintenance practices.
• Manage the handling, labeling, and storage of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials.
• Oversee the inventory of safety equipment and support efforts to maintain environmental compliance across operations.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree or a high school diploma/equivalency combined with at least 4 years of relevant experience in implementing EHS programs.
• Capability to lift up to 30 pounds without assistance.
• Willingness to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind.
• Flexibility to work across all shifts, including weekends and potential overtime as needed.
• Must successfully pass USCG examinations, background checks, and drug/alcohol screenings.
• Candidates must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, refugees, or asylees to comply with ITAR regulations.

Nice to have

• Previous experience with wastewater systems and sampling techniques.
• Mechanical skills related to modern machinery and equipment.
• Certifications from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) such as ASP, CSP, SMS, or OHST.
• Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Practical notes

• Salary ranges for this position are structured by experience level: Level 1 ($34-$40/hr), Level 2 ($38-$45/hr), and Level 3 ($42-$51/hr).
