Sr. Environmental Health & Safety Engineer

About the role

The Sr. Environmental Health & Safety Engineer position is a critical on-site role located at the Rocket Development and Test Site in McGregor, Texas. This position reports to the Safety and Engineering leadership teams to manage complex environmental compliance and health and safety programs in support of high-risk test, launch, and manufacturing operations. You will serve as the technical authority for EHS initiatives, ensuring all activities meet stringent regulatory requirements while fostering a culture of safety excellence. This role requires close collaboration with engineering, operations, and technical teams to integrate safety and environmental considerations into every phase of project execution and facility management.

What you'll do

• Ensure facility operations align with OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT, TRRC, and NEPA standards.
• Conduct job hazard assessments and assist leadership in drafting safety policies and procedures.
• Track employee exposure to chemical and physical hazards through monitoring and data analysis.
• Inspect machinery, equipment, and safety systems to identify risks and implement machine guarding solutions.
• Perform safety audits to document observations and verify regulatory adherence across all operational areas.
• Investigate workplace accidents or illnesses to identify root causes and develop effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Create and manage emergency contingency plans for spills, fires, and other potential incidents.
• Advise engineering teams on safety design principles to ensure hazard considerations are integrated into project development.
• Monitor discharge permits and oversee the management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste in compliance with regulations.
• Maintain accurate records for TCEQ-permitted sources and ensure timely reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental, health, and safety oversight or a related engineering discipline.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex regulatory standards to real-world operational scenarios.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to meet ITAR requirements.
• Proven capability to work on-site in McGregor, Texas, including flexibility for occasional weekend or extended hours during critical operational periods.

Nice to have

• Bachelor degree in engineering with a focus on environmental or occupational health and safety.
• Demonstrated background in both safety and environmental disciplines across multiple industries.
• Knowledge of construction safety practices and structural design criteria for safety systems.
• Experience managing storm water regulations and implementing control measures.
• Proficiency in industrial hygiene programs, including monitoring and assessment techniques.
• Experience with machine guarding implementation and verification methods.
• Expertise in emergency response planning and incident management for chemical or material releases.

Skills & tools

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
• Strong capability in regulatory interpretation, documentation, and cross-functional communication.
• Experience with safety management systems, audit protocols, and compliance tracking methods.

This is a strictly on-site role that requires relocation to the McGregor, Texas area for candidates not currently located there.
