About the role

Join our team in Bastrop to manage occupational safety and environmental compliance for our hardware development operations. You will work directly with technicians and engineers to mitigate hazards and ensure our facilities meet all regulatory standards. This role demands a thorough understanding of complex regulatory frameworks and the ability to translate those requirements into actionable, on-site procedures. You will act as a subject matter expert, bridging the gap between policy and practice to foster a proactive safety culture. Your decisions and interventions will directly influence the safety culture and compliance posture of the site, ensuring that critical hardware development can proceed safely and efficiently.

What you'll do

• Perform safety reviews for complex, hazardous operations alongside test and technician teams, identifying potential risks before activities commence.
• Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis and the development of corrective actions, to prevent recurrence and improve systemic safety.
• Ensure site compliance with OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT, ATF, TCEQ, and TRRC regulations, maintaining detailed documentation of compliance efforts.
• Conduct job hazard assessments and implement safety policies with department leadership, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and operational needs.
• Develop and maintain programs for HAZCOM, cryogenics, compressed gases, confined spaces, fall protection, lock-out/tag-out, radiation, and laser safety, ensuring all protocols are current and effective.
• Design safety solutions using the order of precedence, ranging from engineering controls to administrative measures and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Monitor employee exposure to chemical and physical hazards, analyzing data to implement necessary controls that protect worker health and safety.
• Inspect machinery and safety equipment to identify and resolve potential risks, ensuring all equipment functions correctly and meets safety standards.
• Create and maintain contingency plans for spills, fires, and other emergencies, coordinating with relevant teams to ensure readiness and swift response.
• Conduct environmental due diligence audits, assessing current practices and identifying opportunities for improvement in environmental compliance.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor degree in any discipline, demonstrating a foundational level of knowledge applicable to safety and engineering principles.
• Possess a minimum of 1 year of experience in environmental, health, and safety design or operations, or hold a master degree; student projects and internships count toward this requirement, providing real-world context to theoretical knowledge.
• Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to satisfy ITAR export control requirements, ensuring compliance with national security regulations.
• Demonstrate regulatory interpretation and documentation skills, accurately translating complex regulations into practical procedures and maintaining precise records.
• Show the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including technicians, engineers, and leadership, to foster a collaborative safety environment.
• Maintain a strong commitment to safety principles and regulatory compliance in all aspects of the role, ensuring that safety is prioritized in every decision.
• Be proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook, to perform analysis, create documentation, and communicate findings clearly and effectively.
• Apply analytical skills to evaluate hazards and determine appropriate control measures, balancing operational needs with safety requirements.

• Hold a Bachelor degree in engineering with a specific focus on occupational health and safety, providing specialized knowledge that enhances safety program development.
• Bring experience with process safety management specifically for chemical processes and pressure systems, ensuring hazards are managed in high-risk environments.
• Have a background working in mass consumer, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing sectors, offering insights into diverse safety challenges and best practices.
• Possess knowledge of industrial hygiene practices, including ergonomics, hearing conservation, and respiratory protection, to address a wide range of workplace health risks.
• Demonstrate experience managing emergency response protocols and incident communication for hazardous material releases, ensuring effective coordination during critical incidents.

Practical notes

• This role is strictly on-site in Bastrop, TX. Relocation is required if you are not currently local.
