What you'll do

• Ensure compliance with safety regulations set forth by OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, and other pertinent safety organizations.
• Collaborate with departmental leaders to perform hazard assessments and develop safety protocols.
• Monitor employee exposure to various physical and chemical hazards to ensure their safety.
• Implement and sustain machine guarding measures wherever necessary to protect workers.
• Propose corrective actions in response to any violations of safety policies.
• Conduct inspections of facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Keep detailed records of safety observations from routine audits.
• Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses to determine root causes and implement preventive strategies.
• Develop and maintain emergency response plans for incidents such as fires and chemical spills.
• Ensure adherence to environmental regulations set by agencies like the EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT, TRRC, RWQCB, and NEPA.
• Review new environmental legislation and provide guidance to management on their potential impacts.
• Perform environmental audits to verify compliance with regulatory standards.
• Manage and oversee NPDES and other discharge permits, ensuring all requirements are met.
• Maintain accurate records and compliance for permitted sources as mandated by the local Air Quality Management District (AQMD).
• Supervise the management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste in accordance with DOT and RCRA regulations.
• Ensure compliance with the Certified Unified Program Agency standards.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• At least 5 years of experience in developing, implementing, and managing environmental, health, and safety programs.

Nice to have

• A bachelor's degree in engineering, particularly with a specialization in occupational health and safety or environmental engineering.
• Experience in both environmental and safety sectors.
• Familiarity with stormwater regulations and their compliance.
• Knowledge of CEQA regulations and experience in maintaining compliance.
• Strong skills in interpreting, applying, and documenting safety and environmental regulations at federal, state, and local levels.
• Excellent organizational and communication capabilities.
• Experience with machine guarding and industrial hygiene programs.
• Background in emergency response communication and incident management for hazardous and non-hazardous material releases.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.

Practical notes

• This position requires on-site presence; candidates must be willing to relocate to Hawthorne, CA if they are not already local.
• There may be occasional requirements for extended hours or weekend work.
• The salary for this position ranges from $125,000 to $175,000 annually, with final compensation determined by the candidate's knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
• Total compensation may include long-term incentives such as stock options, cash awards, and participation in an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
