About the role
This position focuses on the end to end management of electrical infrastructure critical to launch operations at Cape Canaveral. You will serve as the primary electrical systems expert for ground support equipment and distribution networks. The role requires close collaboration with utility engineers to maintain continuous and safe power for mission critical activities. You will ensure that all electrical systems remain compliant with strict aerospace and safety standards. The position involves significant responsibility for troubleshooting complex electrical faults under tight operational timelines. You will own the design specifications that keep our launch pads energized and operational. This role is integral to the larger mission of reaching Mars through reliable ground infrastructure.

What you'll do
- Design and specify electrical power distribution architectures for new and modified launch pad configurations.
- Specify switchgear layouts and motor control centers to meet the demands of high inrush loads from ground support equipment.
- Design and implement lighting systems that meet operational visibility requirements while adhering to energy efficiency goals.
- Manage ground support system controls, including ladder logic for automated sequences and safety interlocks.
- Oversee UPS units and standby generator systems to guarantee power continuity during grid interruptions.
- Perform detailed load flow analysis to verify that existing facility electrical equipment operates within safe limits.
- Troubleshoot existing controllers and switchgear to restore operations quickly during pre launch windows.
- Ensure all designs strictly comply with NFPA 70E and NFPA 70 NEC standards to protect personnel and hardware.
- Coordinate installation and maintenance activities directly with local utility personnel to align with site operational schedules.
- Evaluate facility electrical equipment condition and lifecycle to plan proactive replacements and upgrades.
- Document as built electrical systems and maintain updated schematics for future engineering iterations.
- Support on site testing and commissioning activities for new infrastructure at Cape Canaveral launch complexes.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering field from an accredited institution.
- Possess a minimum of 1 year of professional experience in electrical system design, construction, or commissioning, including internship experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to meet ITAR requirements for sensitive aerospace work.
- Ability to pass Space Force background checks that assess reliability and trustworthiness in secure environments.
- Willingness to work extended hours during launch campaigns and critical maintenance windows.
- Willingness to work outdoors in variable weather conditions including heat, humidity, and wind.
- Must be comfortable working at heights on launch tower structures and on catwalks above equipment.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces such as switchgear rooms and generator enclosures.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs unassisted when handling equipment or pulling cable.
- Capability to travel between launch sites across the Cape Canaveral facility campus as needed.
- Commitment to following strict safety protocols in a high hazard environment with live electrical energy.
Nice to have
- 3+ years of professional experience with power distribution systems, switchgear, UPS units, and generators.
- Proficiency in interpreting complex power and control schematics and technical O&M manuals.
- Experience with VFDs, industrial pumps, and MODBUS communication protocols used in ground support systems.
- Background as a licensed electrician or direct experience with medium voltage distribution equipment.
- Knowledge of control panel design, power coordination studies, and arc flash analysis methodologies.
Skills & tools
- Expertise in NFPA 70E and NFPA 70 NEC standards that govern electrical safety and installation practices.
- Hands on experience with power monitoring hardware and software for data collection and analysis.
- Familiarity with MODBUS communication networks used to link control systems and sensors.
- Understanding of Variable frequency drives and their application in motor control for pumps and fans.
- Working knowledge of medium voltage distribution principles and protective relaying schemes.
