About the role

SpaceX is seeking specialists to support the tool and die shop responsible for manufacturing molds for Starlink User Terminals and other programs. You will design, integrate, and maintain automation systems to improve production quality, throughput, and cost efficiency. In this capacity, you will act as a critical technical resource for manufacturing operations, ensuring that automated processes align with stringent production goals. You will collaborate closely with mechanical engineers, production staff, and other disciplines to resolve complex manufacturing challenges. What you'll do

• Integrate, commission, and troubleshoot electromechanical automation equipment to validate system functionality.
• Build and optimize automation solutions to meet production demands while maximizing efficiency and minimizing downtime.
• Interpret intricate system schematics including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagrams to guide installation and modifications.
• Construct and wire control panels adhering strictly to UL 508A and NFPA 79 standards to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
• Develop PLC and HMI software using structured text and ladder logic to create intuitive and reliable control sequences.
• Source and procure necessary hardware, sensors, and actuators, managing vendor relationships and lead times effectively.
• Establish preventative maintenance routines and corrective action plans to sustain high equipment availability and performance.
• Enforce 5S principles, safety standards, and inventory management in production areas to maintain an organized and efficient workspace.
• Configure human-machine interface elements to provide operators with clear and actionable process information.
• Perform root cause analysis on equipment failures and implement permanent corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Support the qualification and validation of automated manufacturing processes to meet internal and external requirements.
• Assist in the creation of technical documentation, including assembly drawings, wiring lists, and functional specifications.
• Liaise with production teams to gather feedback and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Mentor junior technicians and engineers on best practices for automation systems within the tool and die environment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent with 2+ years of manufacturing experience, or a bachelor degree in a science, math, or engineering field.
• 2+ years of professional hands-on experience in manufacturing automation or controls gained through practical application.
• Ability to work 2nd shift, Monday through Friday, 3:30pm to 2:00am consistently to support operational needs.
• Availability for overtime and weekend work when production milestones require it to ensure timely project completion.
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time for roles requiring external customer or supplier engagement.
• Physical capability to lift 25 lbs, climb ladders, and perform tasks involving bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods without assistance.
• Must be able to obtain forklift certification to operate material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee due to the technical data and defense articles involved in this role.
• Capability to pass a background check and meet the stringent security requirements imposed on defense-related manufacturing positions.
• Willingness to comply with all SpaceX policies, including but not limited to safety protocols and quality procedures.
• Commitment to working in a manufacturing environment that may involve exposure to oils, coolants, and industrial noise.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in PLC and HMI programming platforms such as Siemens TIA Portal, Beckhoff TwinCAT, or Allen-Bradley RSLogix/Logix5000.
• Experience designing and troubleshooting industrial control panels with complex relay logic and safety integrations.
• Knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, and UL 508A standards to ensure designs meet regulatory requirements.
• Skill in creating schematics using software like AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SolidWorks, Visio, or NX for documentation and design purposes.
