About the role
SoFi is seeking an Independent Risk Management Director to lead risk oversight for its Investment Products division. This director will own the risk framework that governs how investment products are structured, priced, and monitored across the organization on an ongoing basis. The role reports directly to senior leadership and works closely with product teams, compliance officers, and the broader risk organization to ensure consistent risk practices. The director is responsible for ensuring that all investment products align with internal risk appetite thresholds and meet the expectations of both internal stakeholders and external regulators. What you'll do
- Lead the development and ongoing maintenance of comprehensive risk policies for investment products across the entire firm
- Monitor portfolio exposures on a continuous basis and ensure they remain within approved risk limits at all times
- Collaborate closely with investment product teams to assess and quantify risk before any new product launches proceed
- Prepare detailed and timely risk reports for executive leadership and the board of directors on a regular cadence
- Conduct thorough stress testing and scenario analysis on investment product portfolios to identify potential vulnerabilities and emerging risks
- Review and validate risk models that are used to measure market risk, credit risk, and liquidity exposures
- Coordinate with compliance teams to ensure all regulatory requirements and internal controls are consistently met
- Drive meaningful improvements to the firm-wide risk measurement infrastructure and reporting capabilities over time
- Mentor and develop a team of risk analysts and associates within the investment products division
- Serve as the primary risk liaison between the investment products group and independent risk management functions
Requirements
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing a risk management team within a financial services or related industry setting
- Deep and thorough understanding of investment product structures including mutual funds, portfolios, and various derivatives instruments
- Strong analytical skills with the proven ability to interpret complex financial data and translate risk metrics into actionable insights
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining risk frameworks specifically designed for investment products in a regulated environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting risk insights and recommendations to diverse stakeholder groups
- Ability to work independently and take full ownership of risk decisions across the organization with minimal oversight
- Bachelor's degree in finance, mathematics, economics, or a related quantitative field from an accredited institution
- A minimum of several years of progressive experience in risk management roles with increasing levels of responsibility
Nice to have
- Advanced degree such as a Master's in Finance, MBA, or a related quantitative discipline is highly valued
- Professional certifications such as FRM or CFA are considered a strong advantage for this role
- Prior experience working at a large financial institution or a well-established fintech company is preferred
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements relevant to investment products in the United States
- Experience working with independent risk functions and external auditors during regulatory examinations or reviews

- Familiarity with investment product valuation methods and pricing methodologies across different asset classes and instruments
- Understanding of market risk, credit risk, and liquidity risk measurement frameworks and their practical applications
- Ability to use spreadsheet applications and database tools for analyzing large-scale risk datasets efficiently

- This role is based in Frisco, Texas, and requires regular on-site presence at the SoFi office location
