As a Senior Data Scientist in the Borrow division at SoFi, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our lending products. What you'll do
- Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that can inform product strategy and improve lending processes.
- Develop predictive models to assess credit risk and enhance underwriting processes, ensuring that our lending decisions are data-driven.
- Collaborate with product managers and engineers to implement data-driven features that improve customer experience and drive engagement.
- Conduct A/B testing and other experimental designs to evaluate the effectiveness of new features and product enhancements.
- Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders, translating complex data insights into actionable business strategies.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of existing models, making adjustments as necessary to improve accuracy and effectiveness.
- Work closely with data engineers to ensure the integrity and accessibility of data used in analyses and reporting.
- Mentor junior data scientists, providing guidance on best practices in data analysis, modeling, and interpretation.
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in data science and machine learning, applying new techniques to enhance SoFi's capabilities.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to drive initiatives that align with SoFi's strategic goals and objectives.
- Contribute to the development of a robust data culture within the organization, promoting the use of data in decision-making processes.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development to enhance your skills and knowledge in data science and finance.
Requirements
- A Master's degree or Ph.D. in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience in data science or a related field, preferably within the financial services industry.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, with a strong understanding of data manipulation and analysis libraries.
- Experience with machine learning techniques and frameworks, including but not limited to regression analysis, classification, clustering, and neural networks.
- Familiarity with SQL and experience in working with large databases to extract and analyze data.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and communicate findings effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms to present data insights clearly and effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical concepts to a diverse audience.
Nice to have
- Experience in the lending or fintech industry, with a solid understanding of credit risk assessment and lending processes.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure for data storage and processing.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance issues related to lending and financial services.
- Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop or Spark for processing large datasets.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and experience working in cross-functional teams.
