Senior Infrastructure/Platform Engineer
Job description
Senior Infrastructure/Platform Engineer at Slash Financial.
About the role
The role owns and scales the infrastructure that powers Slash business banking. Core infrastructure reliability, security, and scaling are directed by this position to serve billions in annual business purchasing. You will architect and safeguard the platform that underpins critical financial workflows, ensuring systems operate with resilience and consistency. This position drives the automation that allows product teams to move quickly without compromising stability or compliance. You will partner closely with engineers and product to turn business requirements into robust, scalable infrastructure solutions. The work demands rigorous systems thinking and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks before they impact users. You will be a key voice in defining operational standards and best practices for the infrastructure organization.
Key facts
What you'll do
Define and evolve the next generation of database, real-time workflow, and container orchestration foundations to ensure Slash banking operations remain reliable and secure at scale.
Elevate the speed and reliability of CI/CD pipelines for critical, high-availability financial systems, reducing time-to-market for new financial features and improving deployment stability.
Solve scaling, performance, and low-latency problems for a monolithic deployment that processes high-volume financial transactions, implementing targeted optimizations to keep transaction flows responsive under peak load conditions.
Design, implement, and maintain infrastructure components using TypeScript or another object-oriented language to support long-term maintainability through strong typing and object-oriented design.
Think through internal engineering requirements and propose high-impact solutions that unblock teams quickly, while collaborating across functions to accelerate delivery and remove bottlenecks in deployment pipelines.
Deepen expertise in at least one of the following critical areas: large-scale distributed SQL database administration (for example CockroachDB, PostgreSQL), real-time workflow and queue systems (for example Temporal), and container orchestration and service infrastructure (for example Kubernetes/EKS, load balancing, ingress, and service mesh).
Operate within on-call rotations and incident response processes, applying structured post-incident thinking to restore services and drive improvements that prevent recurrence.
Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required for this position, and academic background indicates foundational knowledge for complex infrastructure work.
2-3+ years of experience shipping infrastructure for critical, high-availability systems is necessary, with demonstrated production experience in AWS services including EKS, ALB, MSK, ElastiCache, S3, WAF, and VPC networking.
Proficiency in TypeScript or another object-oriented language is required for code contributions to infrastructure components, supporting long-term maintainability through strong typing and object-oriented design.
The ability to think through internal engineering requirements and propose high-impact solutions that unblock teams quickly is essential, and cross-functional collaboration accelerates delivery and removes bottlenecks in deployment pipelines.
Deep experience in at least one of the following is required: large-scale distributed SQL database administration (for example CockroachDB, PostgreSQL), real-time workflow and queue systems (for example Temporal), and container orchestration and service infrastructure (for example Kubernetes/EKS, load balancing, ingress, and service mesh), with depth in one area providing resilience for complex production issues.
Practical knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools and cloud networking fundamentals is necessary to define, deploy, and manage secure and scalable environments.
Experience with observability platforms and monitoring practices is required to maintain visibility into system health and performance in production financial environments.
An understanding of security controls, compliance considerations, and operational runbooks is required to operate infrastructure that supports regulated financial services.
Nice to have
Experience with financial services, regulated environments, or compliance frameworks is preferred.
Contributions to open source projects or demonstrable automation work that shows ownership and impact.
Familiarity with service mesh implementations and advanced traffic management patterns.
Experience with database performance tuning, backup and recovery strategies, and high-availability architectures.
Practical notes
Work authorization must be available in the United States. The role is based in the downtown San Francisco office.
