Forward Deployed Infrastructure Engineer
Job description
About the role
You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of customer deployments for Sierra's AI platform, acting as the primary technical leader for infrastructure design and execution in enterprise environments. You will translate complex customer requirements into robust, secure, and scalable deployment architectures while establishing the standards and tooling that ensure repeatability and reliability across engagements. This role requires you to partner closely with enterprise customers, navigating their security, compliance, and operational constraints to deliver infrastructure solutions that unblock adoption and drive long-term success. You will collaborate directly with engineering, product, sales, and customer success teams to define how Sierra's platform is deployed, upgraded, and operated across diverse environments. As a founding member of the Forward Deployed Infrastructure function, you will help define the practices and playbooks that set the standard for customer infrastructure engagements at Sierra. You will manage the full lifecycle of critical customer deployments, from initial architecture and provisioning through ongoing upgrades, scaling, and incident support. Your work will ensure that Sierra's AI platform integrates seamlessly into customers' existing infrastructure and meets the highest standards of operational excellence.

- Develop and maintain deployment runbooks, upgrade procedures, and automation tooling to make operations repeatable and reliable.
- Partner with engineering teams to ensure Sierra's platform is deployable and operable across diverse customer requirements.
- Work with customers' platform engineering, security, and DevOps teams to navigate their infrastructure constraints and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with Sales and Customer Success to scope infrastructure requirements during pre-sales and onboarding, translating customer needs into concrete deployment plans.
- Define and maintain the standards, tooling, and processes that enable deployments to scale efficiently while preserving reliability and security.
- Act as the primary technical interface for complex customer engagements, aligning infrastructure capabilities with business objectives and compliance mandates.
- Contribute to the evolution of Sierra's deployment practices by analyzing patterns across customers and driving improvements to the platform and operational workflows.
Requirements
- Language fluency in both Spanish and English at a professional level is required for this role.
- Bring 4+ years of experience in infrastructure, DevOps, platform engineering, or solutions architecture roles, with significant time spent on customer-facing deployment work.
- Demonstrate deep experience with AWS services, Terraform, container orchestration, and cloud networking, including VPCs, IAM, DNS, and load balancing.
- Show a track record of managing deployments in customer-owned cloud environments, including navigating security reviews, compliance requirements, and change management processes.
- Prove ability to navigate ambiguity with enterprise stakeholders, from platform engineers to CISOs, and turn infrastructure conversations into actionable deployment plans.
- Exhibit strong operational instincts, considering upgrades, rollbacks, monitoring, and failure modes from the start rather than as an afterthought.
- Be comfortable working in a fast-moving environment and collaborating across engineering, product, and go-to-market teams to align on priorities and execution.
- Hold a degree in Computer Science or a related field, or possess equivalent professional experience that demonstrates mastery of infrastructure and deployment concepts.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with Go services, GraphQL APIs, or LLM infrastructure in production environments.
- Past experience at an early-stage company where you built deployment operations, playbooks, and tooling from the ground up.
- Familiarity with observability and incident management in distributed systems, using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
- Experience with CI/CD pipeline design, deployment automation, or infrastructure self-service tooling tailored for enterprise customers.
