About the role
As a Configuration Management Analyst at Bamboohr, you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity and consistency of our systems and processes. Your expertise will help maintain the configuration management database (CMDB) and support various teams in managing configuration items effectively. What you'll do
- Oversee the maintenance and accuracy of the configuration management database (CMDB), ensuring that all configuration items (CIs) are properly documented and updated.
- Collaborate with IT and engineering teams to identify and classify configuration items, ensuring that all changes are accurately reflected in the CMDB.
- Develop and implement configuration management policies and procedures to enhance the effectiveness of the configuration management process.
- Conduct regular audits of the CMDB to verify the accuracy of configuration data and identify discrepancies, ensuring compliance with established standards.
- Analyze configuration management data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for process improvements, providing actionable insights to stakeholders.
- Support change management processes by ensuring that all changes to configuration items are documented, assessed, and approved in accordance with established protocols.
- Provide training and guidance to team members on configuration management best practices and tools, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure that configuration management considerations are integrated into project planning and execution.
- Assist in the development of metrics and reporting mechanisms to track the effectiveness of configuration management activities and communicate results to management.
- Participate in incident and problem management processes, ensuring that configuration-related issues are addressed promptly and effectively.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in configuration management, recommending updates to processes and tools as necessary.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of documentation related to configuration management processes, tools, and standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in configuration management, IT asset management, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of configuration management principles and practices, including experience with CMDB tools and methodologies.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and present findings clearly.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented mindset with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Familiarity with ITIL framework and best practices in change and incident management.
- Experience with configuration management tools such as ServiceNow, BMC Remedy, or similar platforms is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Nice to have
- Certification in ITIL or a related configuration management framework.
- Experience in a regulated industry, such as aerospace, healthcare, or finance.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation of configuration management tasks.
- Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure and services, particularly in relation to configuration management.
