Staff Systems Engineer
Job description
About the role
Staff Systems Engineer
This role operates at the intersection of cloud infrastructure and automation, building and managing systems that run across multiple public providers. The work focuses on code-defined solutions, where infrastructure is treated as programmable logic rather than static hardware. You will engage with enterprise scale deployments, reliability standards, and emerging technologies such as Kubernetes and open-source platforms. This position is based in Toronto and requires adherence to Government of Canada reliability policies.

You will develop and onboard new services using languages such as Go and Python, applying automation tools including Puppet and Ansible. You will define solutions that deliver measurable impact on customer outcomes while meeting strict functional and security requirements. You will lead next generation software offerings such as Kubernetes, advancing a fully code-defined environment. You will research, evaluate, and implement new open-source and commercial tools, technologies, and methodologies. You will collaborate with Site Reliability Engineering, networking, and system administration teams to ensure stability, performance, and security of the platform. You will explore how AI can be integrated into workflows, decision-making processes, and problem-solving activities to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
