Staff AI Product Designer
Job description
About the role
You will own the end-to-end UX strategy and concept development for Samsung's most ambitious AI-first initiatives inside the Global UX Studio. You will act as the primary voice of the user while partnering with conversational designers, creative technologists, and researchers to define what is possible three to five years into the future. You will translate ambiguous AI capabilities into coherent, human-centered experiences that feel intuitive, trustworthy, and delightful. You will craft narratives, frameworks, and prototypes that align stakeholders across design, engineering, and product leadership. You will balance long-horizon system thinking with the details of interaction craft to ensure concepts are both visionary and executable. Your work will directly shape the direction of the Galaxy ecosystem and influence how millions of users experience AI on their devices.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead the generation and validation of UX concepts for Generative Design System investigations, including adaptive UI surfaces, tokenized design patterns, and machine-readable component architectures that enable AI composition at scale.
- Define and prototype Agentic OS interaction models, such as intent-based navigation, multi-agent task orchestration, and dynamic layout systems that move beyond the traditional app grid paradigm.
- Translate complex AI system behaviors into clear, human-centered interaction flows, scenarios, and design frameworks that help cross-functional teams understand tradeoffs and implications.
- Develop strategy documents, user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity concept visions that communicate direction clearly to both design peers and executive leadership.
- Contribute to Jobs-To-Be-Done analysis, opportunity mapping, and product roadmap decisions to ensure concepts are grounded in user needs and business goals.
- Partner closely with creative technologists to explore emerging interaction modalities, tooling, and rapid prototypes that push the boundaries of current AI-capable devices.
- Conduct or synthesize formative and summative research insights, translating qualitative findings into actionable design decisions and measurable experience metrics.
- Establish and contribute to scaled design system patterns, defining interaction specs, component logic, and design tokens that support consistent AI experiences across surfaces.
- Advocate for responsible AI design practices, including clarity about system capabilities, user control, override mechanisms, and transparent communication of uncertainty or error states.
- Mentor and elevate the craft of junior designers by providing critique, feedback, and examples that bridge strategic vision and detailed execution.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or an equivalent field; a Master's degree or PhD is preferred or can be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Bring 10 or more years of experience in UX, Interaction Design, or Human-Computer Interaction, with at least 3 years focused on emerging or AI-powered product experiences.
- Demonstrate fluency in designing for agentic or AI-native interfaces, including proactive systems, multi-step task flows, and autonomous agent UX that balances capability with user control.
- Show hands-on knowledge of generative UI principles, design system tokenization, and LLM/AI model behavior as it relates to agentic system design patterns such as orchestration layers, delegation models, and handoff.
- Exhibit strong command of OS-level or system UX design, including navigation models, information architecture, and cross-surface continuity across devices and contexts.
- Possess experience working within or alongside a scaled design system, contributing patterns, interaction specifications, or component logic that supports multiple teams.
- Communicate complex AI concepts clearly and compellingly to executive and cross-functional audiences, distilling technical uncertainty into narratives that inform decision-making.
- Act as a systems thinker who can simultaneously maintain a 10,000-foot strategic view and a 1-foot craft focus, ensuring concepts are both ambitious and meticulously detailed.
Nice to have
- Experience designing multimodal interactions, including voice, gesture, visual, or ambient input and output across diverse device types and form factors.
- A portfolio that includes speculative or actual work exploring the future of AI-native devices, agentic workflows, or next-generation interaction paradigms.
- Familiarity with current AI research directions, tooling, and constraints, and an ability to translate those into practical design guidelines.
Practical notes
This role is based in New York and operates within the constraints and expectations of the studio as defined in source materials. Travel, visa, and deadline requirements, if any, will be confirmed during the hiring process in accordance with company policy and source documentation.
