Rocket Lab Corporation is seeking a Senior Facilities Engineer II to join their operations team based in Middle River, Maryland. This position focuses on supporting the maintenance, reliability, and continuous improvement of facility systems across the organization's Middle River campus. The role involves coordinating closely with internal stakeholders, including operations managers and safety teams, to ensure that building infrastructure, mechanical systems, and utility networks operate efficiently and in full compliance with applicable standards. The Senior Facilities Engineer II will take ownership of complex facility projects, provide technical guidance to junior engineering staff, and contribute to long-term planning for facility capacity and modernization.

What you'll do

Manage and oversee preventive maintenance programs for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection systems across the facility

Coordinate with external contractors and vendors to schedule and supervise repair and installation work orders

Develop and maintain detailed records of building systems, including as-built drawings and equipment specifications

Conduct routine inspections of facility infrastructure to identify potential safety hazards or code compliance issues

Lead capital improvement projects from initial planning through design review, procurement, and final commissioning

Analyze energy consumption data and recommend efficiency upgrades to reduce operational costs and environmental impact

Collaborate with the operations team to prioritize facility requests and allocate resources effectively

Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing facility conditions, project progress, and budget status

Train and mentor junior engineers and maintenance technicians on best practices for facility management

Respond to emergency situations and coordinate rapid remediation of critical facility failures or outages

Monitor and troubleshoot building management system alarms to detect anomalies in mechanical or electrical equipment before they escalate

Maintain relationships with local utility providers and regulatory agencies to ensure ongoing compliance with energy and environmental mandates

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering, facilities management, or a closely related technical field required

Minimum of five years of experience in facilities engineering, building maintenance, or a comparable role

Demonstrated experience managing multiple facility projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budget targets

Strong understanding of commercial building systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, and fire alarm systems

Familiarity with relevant local and national building codes, OSHA regulations, and safety standards

Proven ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, mechanical plans, and electrical schematics

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with contractors, management, and regulatory agencies

Willingness to work on-site at the Middle River, Maryland facility as needed for inspections and emergencies

Ability to travel occasionally to other Rocket Lab Corporation sites or vendor locations for project oversight and coordination

Strong organizational and time management skills with the capacity to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment

Nice to have

Professional Engineer license or equivalent certification in Maryland or a neighboring state

Experience with computerized maintenance management systems and facility asset tracking software

Background in cleanroom or aerospace-grade facility environments and their unique requirements

Knowledge of LEED certification standards and sustainable building practices

Prior experience working with government or defense contractors and their facility standards

Experience with energy auditing and sustainability reporting for commercial or industrial buildings

Skills & tools

Proficiency with building automation and building management systems for monitoring HVAC and utility performance

Experience using computer-aided design software for reviewing and annotating facility drawings

Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, for reporting and budgeting

Working knowledge of project management methodologies and scheduling tools for coordinating facility work

Ability to operate diagnostic instruments and testing equipment for mechanical and electrical systems

Understanding of procurement processes and vendor management for facility-related contracts and purchases

Comfort with data analysis and reporting to track facility performance metrics and identify trends over time

Practical notes

This is a full-time, on-site position at the Middle River, Maryland location and is not a remote role

Candidates should expect occasional work outside of standard business hours to address urgent facility issues
