About the role
In this position, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the User-Generated Content (UGC) validation systems at Roblox. As a Senior Software Engineer, your primary focus will be on scaling and refining the automation processes that ensure the quality and compliance of 3D assets uploaded to our marketplace. This role is essential in maintaining the integrity of our platform as we continue to grow and evolve, ensuring that all user-generated content meets our high standards for quality and security.

What you'll do
- Enhance and maintain existing automated validation systems to analyze 3D geometry, ensuring compliance with avatar schemas and asset metadata.
- Develop and implement quantitative metrics that evaluate user-generated content against established platform standards before it is made available to millions of users.
- Act as a key resource for geometric processing, collaborating with machine learning teams to improve asset quality and validation pipelines.
- Work cross-functionally with engineers, product managers, and artists to translate complex marketplace policies into efficient, scalable code solutions.
- Optimize data and validation pipelines to efficiently handle large-scale 3D assets, including meshes and textures, ensuring high performance during runtime.
- Identify and address potential geometry-based exploits, ensuring that all uploaded assets adhere to security protocols.
- Contribute to the evolution of the validation frameworks, expanding their capabilities to meet the demands of a rapidly growing marketplace.
- Document and communicate technical processes and findings to ensure clarity and alignment across teams.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong foundation in 3D mathematics, particularly linear algebra, as it pertains to game engines and 3D environments.
- Proven experience in manipulating and analyzing 3D data, including knowledge of meshes, vertices, and topological structures.
- Familiarity with avatar schema compliance, including rigging, skinning weights, and animation principles.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Luau, and Python, with a track record of optimizing systems and developing complex software solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a history of delivering production-ready engineering updates in a timely manner.

- Experience working with runtime game engines, providing practical insights into their operation.
- Basic understanding of rendering pipelines, contributing to a holistic view of asset processing.
- Familiarity with machine learning concepts and their application in asset quality evaluation.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in C++, Luau, and Python for software development.
- Strong understanding of 3D geometry and spatial reasoning.
- Experience with automated testing and validation frameworks.
- Familiarity with data structures and algorithms relevant to 3D asset processing.
- Knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git.
Practical notes
For this role based in San Mateo, CA, the starting base salary ranges from $196,750 to $243,290 USD. The actual salary may vary based on factors such as your professional experience, education, and the specific needs of the business. Additionally, all full-time employees are eligible for equity compensation and comprehensive benefits. Employees are expected to work onsite Tuesday through Thursday, with optional attendance on Mondays and Fridays, unless stated otherwise.
