About the role

Roblox is seeking a Senior Frontend Software Engineer to join their Marketplace team and help build the digital storefront that powers one of the world's largest virtual economies. In this position, you'll be responsible for architecting and scaling the applications that enable hundreds of millions of monthly active users to express themselves through avatar customization and digital item purchases. This is a high-impact role where your work will directly influence user engagement, retention, and revenue generation for both Roblox and its global community of content creators. You'll be developing cross-platform experiences that span mobile devices, gaming consoles, and emerging VR technologies while working alongside product, design, and data science professionals.

What you'll do

Take ownership of mission-critical user interfaces that serve millions of daily visitors, with your code directly impacting key business metrics including user engagement, retention rates, and overall revenue generation
Design and implement marketplace features that facilitate product discovery and drive monetization opportunities for the thriving ecosystem of independent creators and brand partners who contribute to the platform
Build responsive, high-performance user interfaces that function seamlessly across multiple platforms including iOS mobile devices, Android smartphones and tablets, Xbox gaming consoles, and next-generation virtual reality headsets
Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in Product Management, User Experience Design, and Data Science departments to conceptualize, develop, and launch new marketplace capabilities
Design and execute A/B testing experiments to validate hypotheses about user behavior and measure the effectiveness of new features before full rollout
Analyze user interaction data and engagement metrics to identify optimization opportunities throughout the purchase funnel and implement improvements that maximize conversion rates
Drive projects from initial conception through final deployment, taking full ownership of the entire development lifecycle including planning, implementation, testing, and post-launch monitoring
Architect scalable frontend solutions capable of handling a catalog containing hundreds of millions of digital items while maintaining excellent performance characteristics
Optimize application performance to ensure smooth, responsive experiences even during peak traffic periods when millions of concurrent users are browsing and making purchases
Contribute to the development of reusable component libraries and establish frontend engineering best practices that benefit the broader engineering organization
Participate in code reviews to maintain high quality standards and share knowledge with other team members
Stay current with emerging frontend technologies and evaluate their potential application to improve the marketplace experience

Requirements

A minimum of three years of professional experience developing complex, responsive user interfaces for applications serving large user bases at scale
Demonstrated expertise with contemporary frontend frameworks such as React, React Native, or comparable modern JavaScript libraries and toolsets
Strong instincts for user experience design with the ability to identify when interface elements feel unintuitive or problematic and the technical skills to implement effective solutions
Practical experience conducting A/B tests, running controlled experiments, and leveraging quantitative data to guide product development decisions
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience in software development
Proven ability to work effectively within collaborative team environments, inspiring colleagues and driving collective progress toward shared objectives
Analytical mindset with experience examining user interaction patterns to identify opportunities for meaningful impact
Adaptability and willingness to venture beyond familiar technologies to learn new tools and approaches as project requirements evolve
Track record of delivering high-quality code for user-facing applications that directly serve end customers
Strong communication skills for articulating technical concepts to both engineering peers and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to have

Professional experience working on e-commerce platforms, digital storefronts, or online marketplaces with transaction processing capabilities
Background developing monetization systems, payment flows, or revenue-generating features for consumer-facing applications
Familiarity with personalization engines, recommendation systems, or machine learning-powered content discovery mechanisms
Experience building applications for gaming platforms or virtual world environments
Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices for creating experiences usable by diverse audiences
Previous work on high-traffic applications serving tens of millions of monthly active users

Practical notes

Roblox headquarters are located in San Mateo, California, and this role requires physical presence in the office three days per week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The company offers optional office attendance on Mondays and Fridays for those who prefer additional in-person collaboration. Compensation includes base salary within the stated range, with actual offers determined by factors including professional background, training, work experience, and market conditions. All full-time employees receive equity compensation in addition to base salary and are eligible for the company's comprehensive benefits package.
