What you'll do

• Design and implement robust and scalable components for the Roblox engine, ensuring high performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including game developers and designers, to understand their needs and translate them into technical requirements.
• Optimize existing engine features to improve performance, reduce latency, and enhance user experience across various devices.
• Develop and maintain documentation for engine features, APIs, and best practices to facilitate onboarding and knowledge sharing within the team.
• Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to best practices and maintain high code quality standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues that arise within the engine, providing timely solutions to maintain operational efficiency.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve the engine's capabilities and performance.
• Participate in brainstorming sessions to generate innovative ideas for new features and enhancements that will benefit the Roblox community.
• Mentor junior developers, providing guidance and support to help them grow their skills and contribute effectively to the team.
• Implement automated testing frameworks to ensure the reliability and stability of engine components.
• Collaborate with the QA team to develop comprehensive testing strategies and ensure thorough coverage of engine features.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, with a strong focus on systems programming and performance optimization.
• Proficiency in C++ and experience with game engine development or similar high-performance applications.
• Strong understanding of computer graphics, rendering techniques, and real-time systems.
• Experience with multithreading and parallel programming to optimize performance in a multi-core environment.
• Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git, and agile development methodologies.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

Nice to have

• Experience with Lua or other scripting languages commonly used in game development.
• Knowledge of network programming and multiplayer game architecture.
• Familiarity with cloud services and distributed systems for scalable game development.
• Previous experience in the gaming industry, particularly with user-generated content platforms.
