About the role
You will manage the testing of high-energy components, engines, and full stages for the Terran R orbital launch vehicle. This role places you at the core of hardware validation, where your work directly dictates flight readiness and mission success. You will own the end-to-end test lifecycle, solving complex technical challenges and optimizing processes to increase testing efficiency and throughput. Collaboration is central, as you interface with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure alignment on objectives. Your analytical mindset will drive data-informed decisions that refine test procedures and mitigate risk. You will be responsible for translating technical requirements into actionable test plans that are both safe and effective. What you'll do
- Design fluid systems including P&IDs, perform structural 3D modeling, and manage component selection and fabrication for propulsion test articles.
- Activate and maintain test stands, including rapid response to equipment anomalies to minimize downtime and ensure test continuity.
- Conduct test operations using GUIs and automation while monitoring telemetry and camera feeds to capture critical real-time data.
- Execute flight acceptance, qualification, and development test campaigns from initiation through closeout.
- Manage test articles through preparation, post-test processing, and necessary repairs to keep hardware in optimal condition.
- Author work instructions and coordinate with technicians and quality inspectors to resolve non-conformances and ensure compliance.
- Validate test procedures and protocols to confirm adherence to strict safety and performance standards.
- Support the development of test methodologies that improve efficiency, repeatability, and data integrity.
- Liaise with cross-functional teams to align test objectives with project timelines and hardware milestones.
- Maintain detailed records of test results, anomalies, and corrective actions for traceability and future analysis.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field is mandatory for this position.
- Ability to operate common power tools safely is required for hands-on maintenance and assembly tasks.
- Capacity to meet tight schedules and develop creative solutions under pressure is essential for success in this role.
- Valid driver license for site vehicle operation is necessary for mobility within the Stennis Space Center campus.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time for project reviews, meetings, and off-site coordination as needed.
- Must pass a US government background check for site access due to the sensitive nature of the work.
- Strong attention to detail is required to ensure test procedures are followed precisely and accurately.
- Physical ability to work in technical environments that may involve standing, lifting, and extended periods of focus.
Nice to have
- Proficiency in 3D modeling, drafting, and GD&T to enhance design communication and manufacturing accuracy.
- Strong fundamentals in thermal fluid systems and structures for deeper insight into propulsion behavior.
- Experience with complex assembly fabrication to support rapid prototyping and iterative testing.
- Knowledge of fluid components and P&ID development to streamline system design and integration.
- Experience operating high-pressure gas, cryogenic, flammable, or hydraulic systems for safe and effective testing.
- Technical writing or documentation skills to produce clear, concise, and accurate procedural materials.
