What you'll do
- Serve as the principal authority for propulsion test articles, responsible for the creation and execution of detailed test plans.
- Oversee test campaigns conducted at the Stennis Space Center, ensuring effective troubleshooting and thorough data analysis throughout the process.
- Assess the performance of test hardware to facilitate engine certification and support ongoing development efforts.
- Develop comprehensive test sequences, design necessary tooling, and operate the control console during hotfire tests to ensure precision and safety.
- Engage in systems-level work, including troubleshooting subsystems, conducting trade studies, and performing simulation analyses to enhance system performance.
- Contribute to stage testing and flight campaigns by defining clear test objectives and outlining operational concepts for flight scenarios.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate propulsion systems into broader vehicle architectures, ensuring alignment with overall mission goals.
- Document test results and findings, providing insights that inform future design iterations and operational strategies.
- Mentor junior engineers and interns, fostering a culture of learning and innovation within the team.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in propulsion technology, applying this knowledge to improve testing methodologies and outcomes.
- Participate in safety reviews and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements during testing activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing test efficiency and effectiveness.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant STEM discipline is required.
- At least 5 years of experience in the development or testing of complex engineering systems is essential.
- A solid understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics principles is crucial for success in this role.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects with high levels of ownership and accountability, particularly under tight deadlines.
- Proven capability to thrive in a collaborative and dynamic work environment, adapting to changing priorities as needed.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and draw actionable conclusions.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience in test operations would be beneficial.
- Familiarity with heat exchangers, valves, combustion devices, or various types of instrumentation is a plus.

Practical notes
- This position is based onsite in Long Beach, California, with approximately 25% travel required to various launch and test sites.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including both 1st and 2nd shifts, is necessary to meet project demands.
