What you'll do
- Design and develop optical packaging solutions that ensure the reliability and performance of quantum computing systems.
- Collaborate with optical engineers and physicists to define the specifications and requirements for optical components.
- Conduct simulations and modeling of optical systems to predict performance and identify potential issues.
- Oversee the prototyping and testing of optical packages, ensuring they meet quality and performance standards.
- Develop and implement manufacturing processes for optical packaging, including assembly and integration techniques.
- Work on the characterization of optical components, including lenses, mirrors, and waveguides, to enhance overall system efficiency.
- Analyze test data and provide insights to improve optical packaging designs and processes.
- Maintain thorough documentation of designs, testing procedures, and results to ensure compliance with company standards.
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to source materials and components necessary for optical packaging.
- Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in optical packaging technologies to drive innovation within the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in optical packaging or related fields, preferably in the semiconductor or photonics industries.
- Proficiency in optical design software such as Zemax, Code V, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of optical principles, including wave optics, geometrical optics, and photonics.
- Experience with fabrication techniques for optical components, including coating, polishing, and assembly.
- Familiarity with testing methodologies for optical systems, including interferometry and spectrometry.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
Nice to have
- Experience in quantum optics or quantum computing applications.
- Familiarity with CAD software for mechanical design, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
- Previous experience working with cross-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced technology environment.
