What you'll do
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to develop and refine mechanical designs for custom enclosures and components, ensuring they meet client specifications and industry standards.
- Utilize CAD software to create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings, facilitating clear communication of design intent and manufacturing requirements.
- Conduct thorough analyses of mechanical systems, including stress analysis, thermal analysis, and material selection, to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Assist in the prototyping process by creating physical models and conducting tests to validate design concepts and functionality.
- Work closely with the manufacturing team to ensure that designs are feasible and can be produced efficiently, addressing any production challenges that arise.
- Participate in project management activities, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation, to ensure timely delivery of projects.
- Document design processes, changes, and specifications in accordance with company standards and best practices, maintaining a comprehensive record for future reference.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering, applying this knowledge to enhance product offerings and processes.
- Provide technical support to clients and internal teams, addressing inquiries and resolving issues related to mechanical design and functionality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers and software developers, to ensure integrated solutions that meet customer requirements.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance product quality, reduce costs, and streamline processes.
- Mentor junior engineers and interns, sharing knowledge and expertise to foster their professional development within the organization.
Requirements
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field, with a strong foundation in mechanical design principles.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design or engineering, preferably in a manufacturing or product development environment.
- Proficiency in CAD software, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD, with a strong portfolio showcasing previous design work.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, materials, and techniques, including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and injection molding.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to conduct engineering calculations and simulations to support design decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to think critically and creatively to overcome design challenges.
- Experience with project management tools and methodologies is a plus.
Nice to have
- Certification as an Engineering Technologist (CET) or similar professional designation.
- Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) software and tools.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to mechanical design and manufacturing.
- Familiarity with electrical engineering concepts and integration of mechanical and electronic systems.
