Profound is leading the charge in AI search marketing, offering a platform that assists brands in navigating the dynamic world of AI technologies such as ChatGPT and Google AI Mode. We are looking for a Tech Lead Manager to spearhead our Context team, which plays a crucial role in enhancing our agents' capabilities to comprehend and engage with customer data effectively.

What you'll do
- Lead the strategic vision for the Context team, working closely with engineering and product leadership to align goals.
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of 4 to 8 engineers, ensuring a robust hiring process and setting clear performance expectations.
- Make pivotal technical decisions addressing complex issues such as retrieval quality, data schemas, and integration frameworks.
- Assume responsibility for retrieval quality as a critical product metric, implementing evaluation processes to avoid regressions.
- Actively contribute to the codebase, focusing on high-impact components that drive system performance.
- Serve as the main engineering liaison for customer-related issues concerning integrations, data freshness, or agent retrieval inaccuracies.
- Represent the Context team in cross-functional discussions with product management, sales engineering, and executive teams regarding data access, freshness, and security protocols.
- Collaborate closely with internal agent product teams, who are the primary stakeholders for your team's outputs.
Requirements
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in backend engineering, including at least 2 years in a managerial or technical leadership capacity.
- Strong command of Python, which is the primary programming language utilized by the team.
- Proven experience in creating production-level search or retrieval systems, encompassing embeddings, vector storage, and chunking methodologies.
- Practical knowledge of integrating with third-party APIs at scale, including managing OAuth, token lifecycles, and rate limits effectively.
- Experience in data synchronization and ensuring pipeline accuracy, including incremental synchronization and idempotency principles.
- Advanced expertise in Postgres, with the ability to analyze indexes, query plans, and multi-tenant data structures.
- Demonstrated capability in hiring senior individual contributors and providing constructive feedback to team members.
- Willingness to engage as an individual contributor within the team you oversee.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with knowledge graphs or entity resolution at scale.
- Experience in developing memory systems or context management solutions for large language model (LLM) agents.
- Knowledge of MCP, both as a server and client implementer.
- Background in handling high-volume event ingestion and streaming systems.
- Previous experience in a B2B SaaS environment catering to enterprise clients, including exposure to stringent security assessments.
- A track record of creating evaluation frameworks for non-deterministic systems.

This position is hybrid, requiring presence in our San Francisco office. The compensation package includes a competitive base salary, equity options, and a comprehensive benefits package.
