Statistical Programming Intern
Job description
About the role
At ProCogia, the Statistical Programming Intern supports the design and implementation of statistical programming solutions that power analysis pipelines for data scientists working on client projects. You will translate business requirements into reproducible, auditable code that aligns with industry best practices and regulatory expectations. This role involves close collaboration with senior data scientists to refine analytical approaches, shape deliverable structures, and ensure high standards for code quality, version control, and documentation across project cycles. You will contribute to internal tools that enhance team efficiency and data reliability while supporting analyses that drive measurable outcomes for clients in highly regulated industries. The position offers a growth-driven environment where continuous learning and mentorship help you apply new methods to real-world datasets and unlock your full career potential.
What you'll do
Implement statistical analyses and data processing workflows using R or Python under senior guidance, ensuring accuracy and reproducibility. Prepare clean, well-documented datasets from raw sources to enable robust modeling and reporting for downstream analysis. Develop and maintain reusable code libraries that standardize statistical methods across projects and improve efficiency. Perform validation checks on analytical outputs to confirm correctness and compliance with project standards and data governance policies. Support the integration of statistical methods into automated reporting and visualization pipelines to streamline client deliverables. Collaborate with data engineers to optimize data flows and improve the performance of analytical workloads within ProCogia's systems. Conduct exploratory data analysis to surface patterns, anomalies, and insights directly relevant to client questions and business objectives. Assist in the preparation of technical deliverables, including tables, figures, and narrative explanations of results for clear stakeholder communication. Follow established project management practices to track tasks, meet milestones, and respond proactively to stakeholder needs. Contribute to knowledge sharing by documenting approaches, assumptions, and lessons learned from assigned tasks for team-wide benefit. Support the execution of pilot studies and sensitivity analyses to test assumptions, validate robustness, and strengthen client confidence. Participate in code review sessions to incorporate feedback and refine statistical programming practices over time. Adhere to data governance policies and regulatory expectations when handling client information in regulated sectors. Support the continuous improvement of statistical programming standards across the data science team through constructive feedback and best practice adoption.
Requirements
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field that provides a strong foundation for statistical programming work. Enrolled as a full-time student for the duration of the internship, with an expected graduation date that aligns with typical academic timelines to ensure continuity and commitment. Demonstrated coursework or practical experience in statistical modeling, probability theory, and applied regression analysis to understand and execute complex analytical tasks. Hands-on experience with statistical programming using R or Python, including familiarity with relevant packages for data manipulation, analysis, and visualization. Familiarity with version control systems such as Git and collaborative software development workflows to integrate code efficiently within team environments. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to reproducible research practices that ensure transparent, reliable, and auditable results. Ability to communicate analytical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, enabling effective collaboration across diverse stakeholders. Willingness to follow established coding standards and to incorporate feedback during iterative development to maintain high-quality deliverables and team standards.
Nice to have
Experience with data visualization libraries and tools for exploratory analysis to enhance insight generation and communication. Basic understanding of data engineering concepts and SQL for efficient data extraction and preparation in analytical workflows. Exposure to regulated industry data challenges or prior internship experience in similar environments to navigate compliance and governance requirements effectively.
Practical notes
This role is an on-site engagement in Vancouver, BC, aligning with ProCogia's in-person collaboration model. Compliance with client and internal data handling policies is required at all times to protect information integrity and meet regulatory expectations. Hours and specific terms of engagement are defined in the source information and should be reviewed in detail upon offer.
