About the role

Poshmark is actively searching for a Senior Software Engineer to integrate with the Core Platform team and manage the evolution of our critical marketplace infrastructure. What you'll do

• Architect and maintain backend services for the Poshmark marketplace, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Partner with senior staff to create scalable and efficient system designs that can handle peak traffic loads.
• Produce clean, tested, and documented code that adheres to internal standards and best practices.
• Engage in code reviews to maintain high quality standards and share knowledge across the engineering team.
• Resolve production issues within distributed systems, diagnosing root causes and implementing effective fixes.
• Improve internal tooling, workflows, and development processes to increase team efficiency and reduce friction.
• Learn the existing codebase and development environment within the first six months to become fully productive.
• Take full ownership of feature delivery from design through production after one year, coordinating all necessary tasks.
• Mentor new hires and interns as you grow into the role, helping to build a strong and capable engineering organization.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
• Optimize application performance to deliver fast and responsive experiences to users around the world.
• Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
• Participate in on-call rotations to support critical services and respond to incidents as they arise.
• Explore and evaluate new technologies that could provide strategic advantages for the marketplace platform.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
• Possess a minimum of 4 years of professional software engineering experience in a production environment.
• Demonstrate a strong grasp of algorithms, data structures, and software design principles.
• Show a commitment to high-quality, user-focused development in all aspects of the engineering process.
• Have experience writing clean, maintainable code in object-oriented and functional paradigms.
• Be proficient in debugging complex issues and applying systematic methods to solve technical challenges.
• Understand the fundamentals of networking, including HTTP, TCP/IP, and common web protocols.
• Exhibit strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with Amazon AWS or other cloud computing providers such as infrastructure management and deployment.
• Background in email or push notification technologies for user engagement and transactional messaging.

Skills & tools

• Proficiency in Ruby, JRuby, Java, and related frameworks for backend development.
• Experience with HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS for frontend integration and debugging.
• Hands-on work with MongoDB, ElasticSearch, and RabbitMQ for data storage and message processing.
• Strong familiarity with Linux operating systems, shell scripting, and command-line environments.
• Knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git, and collaborative development workflows.
• Understanding of containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
• Experience with relational databases and schema design principles.
• Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools to maintain system health and troubleshoot issues.
