What you'll do
- Develop and implement configuration management plans that align with project requirements and industry standards.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for all configuration items, ensuring that changes are accurately recorded and communicated across teams.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality assurance, and project management teams to establish and enforce configuration management processes.
- Utilize configuration management tools to automate processes and improve efficiency in tracking changes and managing versions.
- Conduct regular audits of configuration items to verify compliance with established standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide training and support to team members on configuration management best practices and tools.
- Analyze configuration management data to identify trends and make recommendations for process enhancements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for configuration management inquiries, providing expert guidance and support to stakeholders.
- Participate in project planning meetings to ensure configuration management considerations are integrated into project timelines and deliverables.
- Support the development and maintenance of system baselines, ensuring that all components are accurately represented and controlled.
- Facilitate change control meetings, documenting decisions and ensuring that all stakeholders are informed of changes to configuration items.
- Collaborate with IT and security teams to ensure that configuration management practices align with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in configuration management or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of configuration management principles, practices, and tools.
- Proficiency in using configuration management software and tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins, Ansible).
- Experience with version control systems and change management processes.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Familiarity with industry standards and frameworks related to configuration management (e.g., ITIL, CMMI).
Nice to have
- Certification in configuration management or related fields (e.g., CMII, ITIL).
- Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., aerospace, defense, healthcare).
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation purposes.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
- Previous experience in a leadership or mentoring role within a configuration management team.
