Data Engineer
Job description
About the role
You will architect and own the end to end data pipelines that power critical B2B weather and environmental insights. You will design data models that turn complex, multi source inputs into structured, decision grade datasets. You will partner with product managers and data scientists to define reliable data contracts for high impact use cases. You will implement monitoring and alerting to ensure data quality, latency, and reliability meet strict production standards. You will lead technical design discussions and translate business requirements into scalable data solutions. You will mentor junior engineers on best practices for data modeling, testing, and documentation. You will ensure all data workflows align with security, compliance, and operational excellence expectations.
Key facts
What you'll do
Design and maintain scalable data ingestion pipelines that consolidate weather observations, satellite data, radar feeds, and third party sources into a unified data platform.
Implement robust data validation frameworks that automatically detect anomalies, missing values, and schema drifts to protect downstream analytics.
Optimize data transformation logic to reduce latency and improve query performance for time sensitive decision making.
Collaborate with product teams to define data requirements, metrics, and key performance indicators that drive product success.
Build and maintain data models and dimensional schemas that support reporting, forecasting, and machine learning workloads.
Develop monitoring dashboards and alerting mechanisms to provide visibility into pipeline health, data quality, and system performance.
Partner with data scientists to prepare feature stores and experiment datasets for advanced modeling and predictive analytics.
Lead the documentation of data flows, business rules, and technical interfaces to ensure clarity and continuity.
Champion data governance practices including metadata management, lineage tracking, and access control policies.
Translate business problems into technical specifications and deliver data solutions that are maintainable and extensible.
Work within an agile delivery framework, participating in sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, and design reviews.
Contribute to the technical roadmap by evaluating new tools, frameworks, and cloud services that improve data platform capabilities.
Support production incidents, troubleshoot data issues, and coordinate with cross functional teams for rapid resolution.
Promote data literacy across the organization by enabling stakeholders with self service insights and clear data products.
Requirements
You are eligible to work in Canada and can work in a Hybrid model at our Oakville or Montreal location.
You possess a strong foundation in data engineering concepts including data modeling, pipeline orchestration, and performance optimization.
You have hands on experience with modern data tools, platforms, and cloud services used to build data intensive applications.
You demonstrate the ability to write clean, well structured SQL and code that is easy to maintain and scale.
You show a proven track record of delivering data projects in an agile environment, collaborating effectively with product and engineering teams.
You understand the importance of data quality, reliability, and how design choices affect downstream systems and users.
You communicate clearly and work comfortably with both technical and non technical stakeholders to align on goals and trade offs.
You are self motivated, curious, and committed to continuous learning in a fast evolving data landscape.
Nice to have
Experience with weather, environmental, or time series data sets is a strong advantage for this role.
Familiarity with tools used for meteorological data processing and visualization would be beneficial.
Knowledge of machine learning feature platforms and model deployment concepts is a plus.
Experience contributing to open source data projects or publishing reusable data components.
Practical notes
This is a full time position with a hybrid work arrangement based in Oakville or Montreal.
Please ensure you meet the eligibility requirements related to work authorization and location flexibility before applying.
