About the role
This position supports the design and planning of large-scale industrial and critical facilities, helping OpenAI build the physical infrastructure that powers its products. As a BIM Coordinator or BIM Designer, you will develop and maintain multidisciplinary BIM models, ensuring early design validation and cross-functional coordination across civil, electrical, mechanical, architectural, and structural disciplines. Your work is central to improving design quality and reducing project risk for global infrastructure, because coordination mistakes caught in the model cost a fraction of the same mistakes discovered on a construction site.
You will work on mission-critical facilities where equipment, utilities, and structural elements have to coexist in tight spaces. That means the quality of your modeling work, and the quality of your clash detection and coordination, directly determines whether the facility is buildable, serviceable, and cost-effective. The role suits someone who is meticulous, understands engineering drawings and MEP systems, and enjoys working at the intersection of design, engineering, and construction technology.
Key facts
What you'll do
You will create and manage conceptual and schematic BIM models for industrial and MEP-intensive facilities, and you will coordinate models across civil, electrical, mechanical, architectural, and structural disciplines. You will build and maintain federated models for design reviews, spatial coordination, and clash detection, and model major building systems including equipment layouts, utility corridors, and structural elements. You will coordinate clearances for equipment, maintenance access, and major MEP pathways, and convert engineering sketches and planning documents into coordinated BIM models.
You will assist with early design activities like test-fit studies and utility coordination, and uphold BIM standards for model organization, naming, and health. Supporting multidisciplinary coordination using various collaboration platforms, you will prepare model views and documentation for design reviews, and aid in model-based quantity takeoffs, equipment tracking, and design progress reports. You will also review BIM deliverables from consultants and contractors for quality and compliance, and help maintain digital design assets that are used across planning, construction, and operations phases.
Requirements
A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering, or a related technical field, is expected. You should have 3 or more years of experience in BIM modeling, coordination, drafting, or design technology, including experience creating 3D models with Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Navisworks, Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar platforms. You should have experience supporting multidisciplinary coordination on complex industrial, infrastructure, or building projects, and the ability to understand engineering, layouts, diagrams, and design documents. A strong knowledge of BIM standards, model organization, and coordination workflows is required.
Nice to have
- Experience with large-scale industrial, data center, manufacturing, or mission-critical infrastructure projects.
- Experience developing conceptual and schematic design models in addition to construction documents.
- Understanding of multidisciplinary MEP coordination, equipment clearances, and constructability.
- Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud, BIM 360, Navisworks, Revizto, Bluebeam, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, Dynamo, Python, or Autodesk Platform Services.
- Experience supporting model automation, asset management, data extraction, quantity takeoffs, and design reporting.
- Experience coordinating with internal engineering teams, external consultants, and contractors.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating across various engineering teams.
