Director of Demand Generation
Job description
About the role
The role generates demand for a security and identity governance solution aimed at cloud and infrastructure teams. It aligns with GTM leadership on accounts facing regulatory pressure and access complexity. The position reports to the VP of Marketing and follows a hybrid schedule with multiple in-office days in San Francisco.
Leaders set direction and build the conditions for their teams to succeed. They hire, coach, and hold people accountable. Leadership work spans strategy, communication, and decision making. Effective leaders give clear context and remove obstacles for the people who report to them. Leadership roles are measured by team outcomes, retention, and delivery. Most organizations expect leaders to be visible, predictable, and generous with context.
Key facts
What you'll do
Tailored account-based campaigns combine content, webinars, and paid amplification to create pipeline for cloud-native security and identity teams.
Coordinated outreach with pre-event sequences and follow-up SLAs moves meetings and opportunities through a clearly defined funnel managed by sales teams.
Integrated campaigns across content, webinars, paid channels, direct outreach, and partner programs are supported by SDRs managing sales follow-up and opportunity progression.
Rigorous hygiene in routing, attribution, and conversion tracking tied to weekly performance reviews keeps the funnel and systems clean.
Executive dinners, roundtables, event surrounds, and regional initiatives are planned and executed to produce qualified meetings and pipeline instead of simple attendance numbers.
Requirements
A Bachelor's degree is the minimum credential for this position.
Demand has been built in B2B security, cloud, infrastructure, developer tooling, compliance, data, or similarly technical markets.
ABM has been operated with real rigor using account tiers, buying groups, 1:1 and 1:few plays, and sales-aligned outreach with measurable account engagement.
Executive dinners, roundtables, event surrounds, partner events, or regional programs have been run and delivered qualified meetings and pipeline.
Salesforce, HubSpot or Marketo, along with campaign attribution, routing, funnel conversion, and weekly performance reporting are used to guide decisions.
Marketing activity is collaborated on with AEs and SDRs before, during, and after campaigns so that it translates into concrete sales actions.
Practical notes
work authorization is required, and candidates must be able to work hybrid in downtown San Francisco for 3+ days per week. Typical interview steps
Leadership hiring usually includes a strategy case, a people scenario, and a values conversation. Candidates may be asked to turn around a struggling team or plan for growth. Past results are examined closely, especially how decisions were made. Interviewers dig into specific decisions you made and their consequences. Preparing two or three decision stories with numbers and lessons is the best use of time.
Good to know
Demand generation in security and infrastructure markets often involves complex buying committees and long evaluation cycles. AI-native marketing tools are increasingly used for personalization, attribution, and content optimization in technical B2B workflows. Cross-functional alignment between marketing, sales, and product teams is critical for converting pipeline into measurable revenue outcomes.
Questions to ask
Worth asking in any interview: how the team measures success, who the role works with daily, what the onboarding looks like, and what the company is trying to achieve this year. Asking what past hires did well is a strong final question. Keep the list short and pick the questions that matter most to you.
Career growth
Leadership careers move from manager to senior manager, director, and executive roles. Each step adds more scope and more responsibility for outcomes. The best leaders keep learning how to delegate, communicate, and decide. Leadership careers reward a record of building and developing people. The higher you go, the more your communication shapes the whole organization.
