Software Development Engineer in Test [Geospatial]
Job description
About the role
Onebrief builds collaboration and AI-powered workflow software for military planning and operational coordination. In this Software Development Engineer in Test role focused on geospatial quality, you design tests that protect complex geospatial workflows. You own quality for mapping and planning features inside defense contexts. You challenge weak assumptions before they reach operations, working within a high-trust, fast-moving environment where decisions carry real-world consequences.
Key facts
What you'll do
Craft CI gates that catch regressions before critical releases, ensuring deployment confidence through automated checks in pipelines. Audit map accuracy and route logic against mission requirements, validating spatial algorithms and data accuracy. Define observability dashboards that expose stability risks early, giving teams clear visibility into product stability and release readiness. Champion automation that lets squads ship with traceable confidence, improving release integrity across the organization. Coordinate reviews with engineers and designers to harden release quality and strengthen collaboration. Analyze experiment outcomes to focus testing effort on the highest risks, using data to refine quality strategy. Establish monitoring practices that track reliability across services and support system-level quality improvements. Partner with infrastructure teams to improve test environments and feedback loops, enhancing the developer experience.
Requirements
You understand modern quality engineering and adapt methods to urgent constraints, balancing pragmatism with rigorous standards. You manage release pipelines, automation, and CI systems that keep deployments safe and observable. You built integration and end-to-end tests using C++/C#/GD Script/Python for complex applications, with experience in geospatial contexts. You apply shift-left practices that speed deployment confidence and developer flow, embedding quality early in workflows. You test resilience, performance, and security while wiring those checks into pipelines and observability systems. You create internal tools that make defects visible and release integrity measurable, improving testability across teams. You validate routes, geofences, clustering, and topology logic for navigation and logistics, ensuring algorithmic accuracy. You verify contracts and dependencies so distributed services behave as expected, with strong API quality practices. You demonstrate ownership, clear practices, and influence across engineering, infrastructure, and product teams. You communicate clearly while coordinating reviews and documenting testing decisions, aligning with quality strategy.
About the team and mission
You are joining a distributed team of builders from military, operational, and technology backgrounds who care deeply about improving how important work gets done. Some team members work remotely, while others work directly alongside customers in operational environments around the world. Founded in 2019, Onebrief is backed by leading investors including General Catalyst, Battery Ventures, Insight Partners, Sapphire Ventures, and Human Capital. Valued at more than $2 billion, the company continues to invest in product innovation, AI capabilities, and team growth. This role is part of a growing Quality team responsible for shaping how the organization builds, tests, and delivers products that matter in defense contexts.
What you bring
You are an experienced SDET who brings both technical depth and a strong sense of ownership to how software is tested and released. You take pride in building systems that make quality measurable, scalable, and reliable. You are thoughtful, analytical, and disciplined in your approach, but also creative in how you identify opportunities to improve release integrity, automation, and performance. You are comfortable driving change, influencing best practices, and communicating effectively across teams. This role requires dedication to mission, high trust, and fast-paced execution where everyone has a voice.
