Senior Staff/Staff Engineer

About the role

At OKX, we are evolving our engineering approach to empower teams to take ownership of quality, moving away from a reliance on dedicated quality assurance personnel. This role is in creating an engineering productivity framework that incorporates artificial intelligence throughout the development process. You will collaborate with various teams to enhance quality assurance, improve delivery efficiency, and strengthen infrastructure, enabling product teams to accelerate their release cycles while minimizing defects.

What you'll do

• Design and implement a comprehensive quality framework that includes metrics for assessing quality from the initial requirements phase through to production, specifically for teams that do not have dedicated QA resources.
• Create AI-driven tools that facilitate test generation, automate code reviews, conduct regression testing, diagnose faults, and predict risks, integrating these tools into the daily workflows of engineering teams.
• Identify and analyze bottlenecks in delivery and quality processes, establish productivity metrics, and engineering and AI methodologies to decrease cycle times and reduce costs associated with quality.
• Develop and sustain engineering infrastructure, which includes continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, management of test environments, automated testing platforms, and developer tools that promote early quality assurance practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the quality framework aligns with the overall business objectives and enhances the product development lifecycle.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers in best practices for quality assurance and productivity enhancement, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering teams.
• Conduct regular assessments of the quality framework's effectiveness and make data-driven recommendations for enhancements based on feedback and performance metrics.
• Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in AI and software engineering to continually refine and innovate the quality assurance processes at OKX.

Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering, with significant expertise in backend development; candidates with a background in quality assurance or software development engineering in test (SDET) must demonstrate substantial development experience.
• Proven experience in initiating and leading quality or efficiency projects from inception to completion, showcasing measurable results is highly desirable.
• Proficient in Java and its associated technologies (such as Spring, microservices, and middleware), or in another prominent backend programming language like Go, C++, or Rust.
• Capability to independently design and construct production-grade systems that meet business requirements.
• Practical experience with CI/CD processes, container orchestration using Kubernetes, and governance of test environments.
• Familiarity with AI engineering practices, including prompt engineering, orchestration of tools, collaboration among multiple agents, and loop engineering applied to testing or productivity scenarios.
• Experience in the payments or financial systems domain (including acquiring, channels, clearing, and settlement), with a solid understanding of the correctness and consistency requirements essential for handling monetary transactions.
• A record of significant contributions to quality or productivity, demonstrated through systems you have developed, open-source contributions, platform products, patents, or technical presentations.
• Strong ability to influence cross-functional teams and exhibit technical leadership.

Nice to have

• Background in blockchain-related business domains or experience with AI infrastructure.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English to facilitate collaboration across different time zones, documentation, and code reviews.
