Technical Lead, Evaluation Infrastructure
Job description
About the role
Nuro is seeking a technical leader to architect and manage the systems used to validate our autonomous driving software. You will guide the development of high-scale infrastructure that enables our engineers to test and verify the performance of the Nuro Driver. In this capacity, you will own the end-to-end evaluation stack, from data ingestion to simulation orchestration. You will define the architectural guardrails that ensure our testing platforms remain robust, scalable, and secure. You will partner closely with product and engineering teams to translate evaluation requirements into technical specifications. You will be responsible for mentoring senior engineers and driving technical best practices across the team. Your work will directly impact the safety and reliability of the features deployed in our robotaxi and licensed vehicle programs.

What you'll do
- Architect the core frameworks that power large-scale simulation and real-world data analysis for autonomous vehicle validation.
- Design and implement performance benchmarks that quantitatively measure the safety and reliability of Nuro Driver features.
- Establish data pipelines that process high-throughput sensor and log data to support rapid evaluation cycles.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering groups to integrate evaluation tools directly into the core development workflow.
- Define and enforce standards for test coverage, scenario management, and result analysis across engineering teams.
- Lead the technical direction of infrastructure projects to ensure alignment with licensing requirements and robotaxi deployment timelines.
- Partner with product teams to translate high-level safety and performance goals into concrete evaluation experiments.
- Mentor engineering staff by providing technical guidance, code reviews, and career development within the evaluation infrastructure organization.
- Optimize simulation environments to reduce iteration time and increase the volume of validated test scenarios.
- Drive the adoption of cloud-based infrastructure and distributed systems to support elastic evaluation workloads.
- Analyze failure modes from simulation and real-world tests to inform improvements in the evaluation framework.
- Coordinate with safety and compliance teams to ensure evaluation processes meet industry standards and internal policies.
- Build dashboards and reporting tools that provide visibility into the performance and reliability of the Nuro Driver.
- Evaluate emerging tools and methodologies to continuously modernize the evaluation infrastructure stack.
