AI Engineer/Scientist
Job description
AI Engineer/Scientist at Nightfall Ai.
About the role
Nightfall AI is seeking an AI Engineer/Scientist to own the design, implementation, and scaling of the core machine learning systems that define our data loss prevention platform. You will own the full lifecycle of AI models, from experimentation with novel NLP architectures to their deployment in production environments that protect sensitive data for top-tier customers. This role requires you to build agentic workflows that enable automated security responses and real-time decision-making across SaaS applications and GenAI tools. You will collaborate closely with product and security teams to translate complex requirements into robust AI-powered features that operate at scale. A significant portion of this role involves deep diving into the internals of data ingestion, model inference, and system-level performance to ensure reliability and accuracy. You will also contribute to the automation of training, monitoring, and remediation processes that allow security teams to operate with minimal manual intervention. Ultimately, your work will directly influence how organizations innovate securely by preventing data exfiltration and enabling self-healing security practices.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and deploy AI models that power Nightfall's data loss prevention and insider risk management capabilities across multiple SaaS platforms.
- Write high-quality Python code to prototype and refine natural language processing models, fine-tune large language models, and benchmark their accuracy for security-specific tasks.
- Develop and maintain Go-based microservices that handle high-throughput data ingestion, streaming processing, and low-latency inference at scale.
- Implement distributed caching and streaming infrastructure using systems such as Kafka and Redis to support real-time data processing pipelines.
- Collaborate with product managers and security engineers to transform conceptual AI solutions into production-grade features integrated into the Nightfall platform.
- Design and automate end-to-end machine learning workflows, including data preparation, model training, evaluation, and continuous monitoring in production.
- Participate in oncall rotations to ensure system reliability, investigate incidents, and drive operational improvements for AI services.
- Build agentic AI workflows that enable autonomous detection, prioritization, and remediation of security violations without manual triggers.
- Optimize database interactions with PostgreSQL and other data stores to ensure efficient access to training and inference data.
- Contribute to research efforts that evaluate emerging AI model architectures and their applicability to enterprise security challenges.
Requirements
- Hold a graduate degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a closely related field with rigorous coursework in AI and ML.
- Bring a minimum of 5 years of industry experience focused on building and deploying AI-driven security or data protection solutions.
- Demonstrate fluency in Python and at least one other systems language such as Go, C++, or Java, with strong mastery of data structures and algorithms.
- Possess hands-on experience in developing deep learning models and successfully deploying them in large-scale, production environments.
- Show proven ability in building agentic workflows that integrate multiple AI components into cohesive, automated security operations.
- Thrive in fast-paced, high-ownership settings where responsibilities evolve rapidly and independent decision-making is essential.
- Exhibit a strong commitment to learning from senior engineers and mentors while rapidly leveling up your expertise in AI security.
- Maintain a meticulous approach to software engineering practices, including testing, documentation, and version control.
- Understand the security implications of AI systems, including data privacy, model integrity, and adversarial threats.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with PyTorch or other deep learning frameworks for solving complex problems in NLP and security.
- Familiarity with major cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP, along with exposure to managed AI services and serverless architectures.
- Practical experience with MLOps tooling for model training, inference, evaluation, monitoring, and deployment automation.
- A record of hackathon victories, published research papers, or meaningful contributions to open-source AI projects.
