About the role
You will architect and evolve the CI/CD platform that serves as the central nervous system for Neuralink's multi-domain engineering organization. This role demands deep integration across firmware, cloud infrastructure, and manufacturing tooling to keep the pipeline robust and fast. You will own the software and firmware build tooling that spans from the factory floor to the research lab, ensuring every change is reproducible and traceable. You will instrument and optimize the runner fleet to support both cloud elasticity and on-prem determinism across diverse hardware targets. Your work will directly impact the reliability of clinical workflows and the safety of devices shipping to patients. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define pipeline standards that balance velocity with the rigor required for medical-grade software. This position is for an individual who thrives on solving hard distributed systems problems under strict operational constraints.

What you'll do
Design and scale the CI/CD platform that enables engineering teams to ship safely and quickly across verticals including, but not limited to, Brain Implant, Surgical Robot, BCI App, Clinical, Full-stack services and infrastructure.
Own the software/firmware build tooling at scale. This includes remote caching, remote execution, target identification and selection, and optimization of build graphs for deterministic outputs.
Operate and scale a runner fleet spanning on-prem and cloud clusters, covering multiple hardware platforms including Mac, Linux, Embedded devices, and Hardware-in-the-loop fixtures.
Maintain reproducible build and CI environments using Nix to guarantee hermetic builds and reliable cache hits across diverse development workflows.
Instrument CI health with Prometheus metrics, Grafana dashboards, and automated alerting to maintain high signal-to-noise on pipeline reliability and failure modes.
Reduce developer cycle time through pre-commit tooling, advanced caching strategies, test sharding, and build graph optimization across monorepo contexts.
Integrate tightly with hardware and firmware teams to support in-the-loop testing setups that validate software and device interactions before clinical deployment.
Define and enforce pipeline standards that ensure compliance, security, and reproducibility across all engineering groups and manufacturing stages.
Collaborate with platform and infrastructure teams to evolve the runner architecture for both ephemeral cloud jobs and long-running embedded test fixtures.
Champion observability and debugging tooling that accelerates root cause analysis for flaky tests, resource contention, and environment drift.
Partner with product and research teams to enable rapid experimentation while maintaining guardrails that protect patient safety and data integrity.
Contribute to open source adjacent tooling where appropriate and document patterns that improve onboarding and long-term maintainability of the CI/CD ecosystem.
Requirements
Deep experience operating Bazel, or similar hermetic build systems, with a proven track record of scaling large, multi-language codebases.
Hands-on experience operating Kubernetes in production, including cluster lifecycle, networking, and workload orchestration across hybrid environments.
Production experience with GitLab CI ( or comparable CI platform ), including pipeline architecture, runner fleet management, and custom executor integrations.
Expertise in operating UNIX systems, including both Linux and macOS, with fluency in shell, systemd, and process management at scale.
Familiarity with Nix for reproducible environments, or equivalent experience ensuring hermetic, cacheable builds that can be verified and audited.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Strong understanding of networking, storage, and concurrency primitives as they relate to distributed build and test execution.
Demonstrated ability to work safely in an environment where software correctness directly impacts medical devices and patient outcomes.
Nice to have
Familiarity with hardware in the loop testing setups and the constraints they impose on automation and observability.
Experience working with build system and CI tooling in a monorepo context, managing complex dependencies and large binary artifacts.
Practical notes
