About the role
We are creating devices that enable a bi-directional interface with the brain. These devices allow us to restore movement to the paralyzed, restore sight to the blind, and revolutionize how humans interact with their digital world. The Brain Interfaces Software Team is responsible for the end to end software stack that manages implant communication, verification, manufacturing and monitoring. You will own client side SDKs and full-stack platforms that are used by various divisions within the company. We are looking for versatile engineers who are interested in architecting and implementing elegant software solutions and who thrive with the autonomy to propose creative approaches to problems. What you'll do
Developing and improving Neuralink's Implant and Charger SDK while ensuring robust performance across diverse use cases.
Maintaining Neuralink's brain interface software and firmware build tooling to streamline developer workflows and reduce integration friction.
Developing and improving Neuralink's Implant manufacturing line acceptance software to support high throughput and quality standards.
Maintaining Neuralink's Implant design control verification testing software to guarantee compliance and reliability throughout the product lifecycle.
Developing and improving Neuralink's Implant recorder system to capture high-fidelity neural data with minimal latency and maximum integrity.
Developing and improving Neuralink's Implant monitoring system to provide real-time insights into device health and performance metrics.
Architecting scalable backend services that coordinate communication between hardware implants and cloud-based analytics platforms.
Implementing secure data pipelines that protect patient privacy while enabling rich telemetry and long-term research capabilities.
Collaborating closely with hardware, firmware, and clinical teams to align software roadmaps with regulatory and safety requirements.
Optimizing system-level resource utilization to extend battery life and thermal performance of the implant ecosystem.
Driving automation for testing, validation, and release processes to accelerate iteration without compromising safety.
Translating complex system requirements into clear software specifications that guide implementation and verification activities.
Partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to resolve blockers and ensure timely delivery of critical software milestones.
Championing best practices in software engineering, including code review, documentation, and knowledge sharing across the team.
Contributing to the broader mission by iterating on products that restore function and redefine human potential through brain-computer interfaces.
Requirements
Fluent in Python and C or Rust (don't get hung up on this - being an exceptional software engineer matters above all).
Experience (and comfortable) with the Linux/Unix systems and command line.
Evidence of exceptional ability in engineering, mathematics, or computer science.
Strong understanding of engineering first principles.
Strong intuition for what matters in a production system (vs. research-grade).
You find large challenges exciting and enjoy discovering and defining problems as much as solving them.
You deliver. You may enjoy thoughtful conversations about problems and perfecting design, but in the end, you know that what matters is delivering reliable solutions. (Our ultimate aim is to help people; the "right" solution doesn't always achieve that).
You are mission-driven and goal-oriented in your approach to solving problems.

Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience developing software for safety-critical systems
Expected Compensation
The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the following range: $119,000 to $200,000 USD. You actual base pay will be determined by your job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. We also believe in aligning our employees' success with the company's long-term growth. As such, in addition to base salary, Neuralink offers equity compensation (in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSU)) for all full-time employees.
