What you'll do
- Lead and manage coastal engineering projects from conception through completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
- Conduct detailed analyses of coastal processes, including wave dynamics, sediment transport, and shoreline stability, to inform project designs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental scientists, urban planners, and regulatory agencies, to develop integrated coastal management strategies.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for stakeholders, including clients, government agencies, and community groups, to communicate project findings and recommendations.
- Oversee the design and implementation of coastal protection structures, such as seawalls, breakwaters, and beach nourishment projects, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and environmental regulations.
- Utilize advanced modeling software to simulate coastal conditions and assess the impacts of proposed engineering solutions on the environment and local communities.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and interns, fostering their professional development and enhancing team capabilities.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes in coastal engineering to ensure the application of best practices in all projects.
- Conduct field investigations and site assessments to gather data necessary for project planning and design.
- Engage with clients to understand their needs and provide tailored engineering solutions that align with their goals and environmental considerations.
- Contribute to the development of proposals and grant applications to secure funding for innovative coastal projects.
- Participate in community outreach initiatives to educate the public on coastal issues and the importance of sustainable engineering practices.
Requirements
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in coastal engineering or a related field, with a proven track record of successful project management.
- A Master's degree in Coastal Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline; a Ph.D. is preferred for Principal Engineer candidates.
- Strong knowledge of coastal processes, engineering principles, and environmental regulations governing coastal development.
- Proficiency in using engineering software such as AutoCAD, HEC-RAS, and other modeling tools relevant to coastal engineering.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop innovative solutions.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience presenting technical information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment, demonstrating strong organizational and time management skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with coastal resilience and adaptation planning in response to climate change impacts.
- Familiarity with GIS software for spatial analysis and mapping of coastal areas.
- Previous involvement in public engagement or community outreach related to coastal projects.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or the ability to obtain one in the near future.
