About the role

Moonshot AI is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to act as the primary technical backbone for our evolving suite of web experimentation and generative AI products. In this role, you will own the design and execution of systems that enable websites to rebuild autonomously to increase sales, improve conversion rates, and accelerate growth. You will operate at the intersection of large-scale data infrastructure and cutting-edge generative AI, ensuring that our platform can handle complex agentic workflows. This position requires you to balance deep, hands-on coding with high-level architectural decision-making that shapes the future of the company. You will be responsible for mentoring engineers across the seniority spectrum and driving the technical standards that define our engineering culture. Your work will directly influence how AI concepts are translated into reliable, production-grade features for our clients. Ultimately, you will be a key driver in moving Moonshot AI from an ambitious vision to a scalable, enterprise-ready reality.

What you'll do

• Architect and maintain the core experiment engine that powers autonomous web modifications at scale, ensuring fault tolerance and high availability.
• Design and evolve backend infrastructure using Python (Flask-RestX), serverless AWS services, and high-performance data stores like ClickHouse, Postgres, Kinesis, Firehose, and S3.
• Build systems that enable AI agents to autonomously reason, experiment, and deploy real changes to live websites without constant human intervention.
• Define and enforce engineering principles across microservices, data ingestion pipelines, and LLM-driven application layers.
• Lead the technical strategy for our ingestion and analytics infrastructure to support millions of daily events with low latency.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, technical design sessions, and hands-on pairing to elevate the entire team.
• Collaborate closely with AI, product, and data science teams to translate ambitious business requirements into resilient and scalable system designs.
• Prototype new features rapidly, moving them from concept to production while balancing innovation with robustness and security.
• Drive the implementation of observability, performance benchmarks, and security protocols necessary for SOC 2 compliance and enterprise trust.
• Take ownership of complex technical challenges, simplifying complexity into clear documentation and actionable design decisions for the team.
• Ensure all systems are optimized for performance, security, and reliability as we prepare for large-scale enterprise client deployments.
• Guide the evolution of our data pipelines to support advanced experimentation and real-time insights across the platform.
• Evaluate and integrate new technologies that enhance our ability to run autonomous tests and deploy changes at web scale.
• Serve as the primary technical authority for critical product initiatives, making final decisions on architecture and implementation details.

Requirements

• Bring 8+ years of experience designing and shipping production systems at scale, with a preference for those who have thrived in 0→1 or startup environments.
• Demonstrate strong expertise in Python, AWS, and JavaScript, comfortably owning both backend logic and frontend architecture.
• Show a proven track record of designing and operating distributed systems, including event-driven architectures, microservices, and data-heavy applications.
• Have experience as a technical lead or staff engineer, where you have mentored peers, reviewed designs, and established engineering standards.
• Exhibit a bias toward action and clarity, consistently simplifying complex problems and delivering solutions that are easy to understand and maintain.
• Display deep curiosity about AI and experimentation, with a passion for building systems that learn, adapt, and improve over time.
• Possess the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift and agility is essential for success.
• Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment between technical constraints and business goals.

• Hands-on experience with ClickHouse, LLMs in production, or ecommerce and analytics infrastructure.
